Now you got me wanting to make buds…
You are obviously on the list, however as someone who heard the best of the best audio stuff in world you are much harder receiver, than my normie wife and friends.
So either you wait X months for me to hit some pure luck good tuning shot or you would receive something as a meme
As long as it is made by you. I just collect stuff from awsome buddies. But not rushing you
You gonna need a funny name tho
I promise this is the last post of the series of beginning of the DIY journey, but I have to as this is quite fun one.
Metal bell shell with MMCX connectors, 32 Ohms - was supposed to be “vocal analysis version”, but I am quite sure seller on shopee messed something up as this have different PCB and glue used than in the pictures.
Plenty of problems along the way with soldering, cables, parts, drivers. Only one MMCX cable to test with with terrible hardware not fitting the colours completely.
How did it turn out in the end?
This bud has terrible tuning, no extension on both ends, no soundstage, metallic timbre, canny male vocals and percussions. Also no note weight
Would be retired to Hall of Shame. I would listen to it from time to time if I would have yet another time an idea in my head that there are no bad sounding phones.
After yesterday’s kind of success I wanted to put go/no go question whether something that I did is better than Vido. Now I am completely ashamed, but in kind of funny way
BTW, how do you tune this crap properly if closing the shell with the driver seems like one way operation and you cannot get it opened back and listening the driver outside of the shell does not tell shit?
idk but I am digging a metal shell mmcx bud! sign me up for testing if you ever send any out.
Back listening to the Ripples and just realized its imaging is actually amazing! Can pinpoint exactly where everything is coming from. Crazy impressive!
Ok sorry. Carry on with the DIY stuff. That’s also super interesting and impressive!
I’m following it all so intently
Ummm…you are carrying on with DIY stuff by talking about Ripples. And I am here for it.
Carry on!
I would be ashamed to send it unless for fun or if someone needs a benchmark gatekeeper of crappy buds
But when I would be getting tour of some of my abominations I would put you on the list definitely. It would be harder since you are likely in CONUS and I am in Europe, but I am sure we can figure something out
Small update. Got this little crap opened with bottle opener and dampened the hell out of them with high density HS foam. It brought some low end to the front and although it is being a little muddy now it slightly saved the timbre in vocals and acoustic instrument. Vocals are now too recessed, but now I would call it usable at least.
This is much more fun than I thought (though I cannot focus on proper money providing work right now…), huge recommendation to anyone having some funds to burn to try out!
How did you decide what to buy to start?
Buy everything from this list:
ok, maybe not everything lol.
Starter driver recs are the “19-21” drivers and this Qigom driver: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004024155707.html
Just do what Riku says and you would be good with this hobby
Jealous!!! I wonder how good of a deal you got on them… I have been trying to stay away from the classifieds
oof
This is definitely my “go big or go home” moment
As far as SQ goes, and Price-to-performance, this is your equivalent to buying something like a U12t but at nearly a 10th of the price.
You sir, have won at audio.
Even if every word @Nymz has said about Ripples is hyperbole, if it’s 90% true; yes, I’ve won lol
Better than the U12t in all aspects imo.
Like a mini Focal clear but warmer
