Earbuds Discussion Thread

Serratus is destroying one of my fav IEM’s og Andro…took my time and sources but Serratus hands down has it beat on pretty much every level, I don’t do reviews, volume matching or graphs just what I personally enjoy listening to and yeah that wee bud :fist_right:’s way above it’s price point…well done Jim @tgx :raised_hands:

It’s pretty freaking remarkable here, yeah

Depending on when @MMag05 needs these back I may be able to do some comparisons to my serratus that are en route

@MMag05 @GooberBM what are the two unmarked ones

Do tell…

The one with the red trim is Berserker 2. The plain black one I think was the Penon PAC but I didn’t like it and fully ignored it

Is the berserker 2 a prototype with a different driver? I have to almost max out the Qudelix 5K to drive it. I’m surprised it’s a 32ohm driver

Ah it’s been awhile I can’t remember by the case. Would need to see the bud. Also, not in a huge rush to get them back. P1 Max, Meteor and SA6U are filling my needs lately.

Alright Alright Alright! I was able to get each one in my ear for about 3 songs and below are my quick takes and broad strokes. There was no critical listening so I didn’t look for the subtle difference between the them, thats this weekend!

BTW I don’t know if any of these are grands or alters, I can tell Gen1 from Gen2 because of the shell though. Also I prefer Gen1 MX500 shell to Gen2 Val39.

From Left to Right they are lined up from brightest to darkest according to my ears:

  1. No Name RikuSennies: Super bright and somewhat hard for me to listen to. I got no sense of bass so notes were very light yet striking. 3/10 for me as I need a decent amount of bass.
  2. Saber 1: Bright but not nearly as bright as 1. I can handle these and they are enjoyable for vocal focused tracks but again the bass is lacking for me. 5/10 for me but I could see grabbing these for certain genres/tracks
  3. Lancer 1: Pretty similar to the Saber 1 for me. Maybe a little less bright but its hard to tell from such a quick take. Same 5/10 as Saber 1
  4. Berserker 1: Now we are getting closer to my ideal sound signature. Berserker 1 brings the bass a lot more, I started to definitely get some midbass thumb although sub bass was lacking a bit. The prototype I have I believe is a Berserker 1 prototype and it is very similar although I think mine is more L shape. 7/10
  5. Assasin 2: These are similar to the Berserker 1 prototype and are a bit more L shape than the Berserker 1 although I think mid bass is slightly tighter with less quantity than Beserker 1. 7/10
  6. Beserker 2 (proto?): These were the hardest to drive and actually my favorite. Treble is super smooth and mellow. These are definitely a non fatiguing set. It definitely had the most bass although it wasn’t the tightest. I had trouble with the fit on these as the shell was almost too big for my ears. That plus the fact that it was pushing my Qudelix makes me think I didnt experience these at their best. Even with that they are so far my favorite (next to my Beserker 1 prototype). 8/10

I can’t wait to listen to them more over the next week!

Amazing!

The lancers were my favorite among the lot I must say - they seemed the most balanced. But the Berserker 2 was by far the most fun - you hit the nail on the head with your first initial impressions, brother.

I remember the Berserker 2 vibrating in my ears during Alive 2007 by dp and I just had the biggest smile on my face

Far left with the awkward shell its the PK Bud. Riku mentioned it was a Berserker 3 prototype at the time of receiving. The far right is the Grand Berserker 2 which explains why it was harder to drive.

That was a GRAND Berserker 2? What???

okay those being Grand Berserker 2 makes WAYYY more sense. My first take is spot on with the description of them. Its also 300Ohm like the Serratus so this will give me a good sense of how much juice the Serratus will need. Luckily Serratus will be balanced so I should be totally fine

Do keep in mind that the sensitivity of those 2 drivers is likely to be different.

True, resistance is only part of the picture.

As part of my “review” of the Rikubud line up I’ll be referencing my initial take and how its changed with more time. I more than expect that my appreciation for each will only go up as I listen to them more so it will be nice to ground them in some initial take.

First up will be the PK buds. Since they aren’t part of the official lineup I didn’t want to sink too much time in them.

After listening to them for the last hour or so I will say my initial take was a bit extreme. While I still think they lean on the bright side, they are not completely absent of bass. They actually have quite a nice mid bass quality to them although the quantity is lacking a bit. The bass presence is just enough to give body to stringed and percussive instruments and replay them with a very life like quality. These are def not going to be good for Hip hop or EDM though as the bass drops off in the sub bass region. Stage feels a tad small for earbuds however would probably land as average compared to IEMs. I would say imaging is average to below average. Overall I would probably move that 3/10 up to a 4.5/10

The PKs were an easy “okay I tried you, now go back to your case and let me play with the real buds” lol

haha yeah that was my general take too. The difference between the PK and the rest of them is pretty substantial

@GooberBM how would you compare the bass between the Serratus and the Grand Beserker 2?
