Earbuds Discussion Thread

Was that the Tantalus? can’t find one from @nymz for the Alpha maybe that’s just me :man_shrugging:

Ah yeah you are right. Sorry about that!

TGXear’s Alpha anyone?

I’m trying to think who it was who compared all 3… someone on head-fi I think, hang on a mo.

Yup, ian91.

This one compares Alpha and Serratus:

After hearing Ripples, his review of it covered all three:

For anyone who decided to try the Stellar on Amazon… have they arrived? What do people think?

Sorry bruh Suss of anyone on ShillFi…it’s day is done when it comes to a legit and unbiased source of information…mostly hypers/shill’s that can’t be arsed to start their own review channel :anchor:’ers…sold their souls and not for rock’n roll…

I second ian91’s reviews of tgx gear. IMHO he is unbiased and knowledgeable, so I trust his reviews.

He isn’t selling them anymore he told me. Hopefully he’ll release an update soon enough. I need to listen to them more but so far, nice stage, solid bass, smooth treble.

Cool but hopefully ian has another review outlet apart from the Shillmachine?

Thanks for the update chap. Hope you enjoy!

I believe Val started to work for some audio company (the one that is generally working on cables but also retails Symphonium Meteor as their own for some reason). And that stops his Valbuds enterprise unfortunately :frowning:

Not true fully! Im able to continue valbuds, however a lot of my efforts and work are being focused into irl matters and Nightjar projects. I do plan to release a v3 that is essentially a true mmcx mx500 bud that has better fit and so on, that is 3d printed. Im still allowed, and able to release them under my name.

This “some company” has been a group i have been close with for a while now, only now i’ve been taken on to work with them for future projects. The Symphonium Meteor is a collab iem that both Nightjar and Symphonium worked together on for sound and overall things, so they do have the right to retail it.

Ok, I believe this is what I read in your initial information once you started working in Nightjar that your private company is put on hold. Or it was only for a while till you talk and agree on your side projects with your manager there it seems? Nevertheless good to hear and good for you

There was a tiny bit of miscommunication and I sorta jumped the gun, but he gave me confirmation that no, its not dead! I do plan to revive some ideas for the name, but it’ll be a little slower than usual haha.

Soooo
Daddy got himself a New toy :smirk:

These are the brand new rikubuds Grand Archer Saber 2.

It’s still quite soon to give any definitive impressions, but here is some piece of info:

  • I’m not sure about the fit of the val39 shell for my ears
  • vocals are veeeeery forward. That is generally a good thing in my book, but with some songs, you can be left wanting more instruments
  • the driver seems to be very competent: I didn’t hear any sign of slouchness of splashiness anywhere

My father in law discovered recently internet and worse - fishing and mushrooming videos on YouTube. He loves to watch them with max volume of his phone. This was a sole and serious enough reason that I decided to give him a present that would save his wife from misery - earphones.

This is how those my best build wa# created - lo and behold - this 15$ build is better tuned than 2$ stock Vido and I am quite confident saying that!

5$ 32 ohm “bass heavy” driver from NSC store, MX500 shell with predrilled 3mm dampened bass vents in the back, paper filter on driver and medium HS filter on the vents in the shell.
Those were my previous worst tuned makes, that I decided not to give up on and open them up to try again.

Only one criteria was made - Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms must sound good on these (apart from sound of the pain of big carp fish being pulled out from the polish rivers :sob:). And man, it sounds freaking amazing (the album itself sounds amazing in itself making it less of a deal). But bass lines are big and rumbly, stage is decent, vocals are in the right place with no nosy feeling to them, details are plentiful and overall timbre is very good and fun. I would say more - hip hop sounds great on them as well (Cheat codes by Danger Mouse + Black Thought).
Female vocals sounds great on them as well. It was so good that my QC process of checking if everything works fine took me 2 evenings with them in ears.

I would not be ashamed giving it up as a present, so after a month of trials here we are

In a few hours I’m heading out to check out a pair of Sennheiser MX985s in excellent condition. If their condition in person matches the pics the seller sent me yesterday then I’ll definitely be grabbing them. Pretty excited at the prospect of adding one of the great Sennheiser buds to my collection. For older and/or vintage buds I really only have experience with my Aiwa HP-V99s and a pair of Sony MDR-E888s that went kaput on me this summer so it’ll be cool to get my hands on a bud thats considered a classic by many.

First time i’ve used Voskhod tubes with Serratus…if you want a warmer, thicker replay then they’re the way to go. Personally I still prefer the Siemens but YMMV…

I wish there was a YouTube channel dedicated to earbud reviews, but I’ll take what I can get for now. This video is from Paul Wasabii (I really enjoy his review style btw), and it’s a great one for those looking to get into earbuds on a shoestring budget:

Oh and he gives a well deserved shout out to @Rikudou_Goku :raised_hands::raised_hands:
