I just got in the ZMF Ori Perf Lambskin today and put them on my 4XX. I feel like I’m gonna need time with them before I can give a good verdict, cause initial impressions are that I feel like the pads need to be broken in.

I was thinking stick the headphone on a foam block and leave them there till Monday. You think leaving them over a heat source will work better?

4xx need burn in…pads need to be broken / burned in too

I bought mine used, and have had them for a year and a half (approximately). I don’t think they need any more burn in. I can say the Ori pads seem to need to be broken in.

hey BJ…if headphones do get better with burn in…using them just continues on with the burn in process, though I think it’s safe to assume that at some point it does stop.
anyhow, I was only joking. we have all that conversation about 4xx burn in and then you got some pads that you think need to be broken in…two phrases, same concept.

I thought the perf pads neutered the bass…but the regular leather ori sounded best on the 4xx for that very reason. Your mileage may vary of course.
These are my initial impressions. I guess you could say I’m letting them heat cycle on the grill covering the radiator used to heat the room. It’s cool enough that I can leave my hand on it for brief period of time before becoming uncomfortable (Maybe 15 seconds, I haven’t timed it), so I don’t expect it to damage them. I’m also only leaving them on for 5-10 minutes before taking them off again. When I go to bed, they’ll go back on the headphones and go on a foam block till Monday.
