This is true. In my mind, as long as they keep as close as they can to the prototype that seemed to impress its initial listeners in build and sound quality, they should be fine. And don’t cheap out and pull some bait and switch BS like the Vokyl team did. If I’m being honest, if they can get to 90% of their intentions with this in the manufacturing and production models I’ll be floored.
I’m betting this project goes well. Based on the transparency displayed here, I have been willing to bet my money that they will do it.
Well we all kinda willingly bet our money on this by crowdfunding it haha!
That we did. Fingers crossed for us all!
For those of you who funded this, the shipping finally starts this week. It’s gone through a few changes and looks different but as they said on the campaign, it’s a vastly superior product from their original prototype. I was pledge #6 of 500 or so, so hopefully I’ll be getting mine this week. Can’t wait!
Cool It’ll be good to hear your thoughts
Oooo I don’t know about that. I love headphones, but my criteria for a product comes down to build quality and if it’s fun and or weird. I don’t think I’d be the best person to review these cans with the appropriate objective justice.
So I got mine in yesterday. They are slightly different from the prototype seen in the promotional videos and pictures, but that was a design choice to incorporate more tech into them. If I’m honest, tech I didnt really care for, but it’s implemented quite well. Like ANC, transparency mode and a microphone (which I do find useful). They pulled off what they set out to accomplish though I’ll say. A high fidelity home stereo tube system on your head. I’m floored with them in every way especially in the sound, however they just do not fit my head properly due to apparently my head just being ever so slightly too small. So they rest on my ears for the most part instead of my head. And they have I’ll be honest, a slightly loose clamp. But that’s really the only negative thing about them. It’s a shame because I can only really listen to them for about an hour maybe before they get too uncomfortable, and I kinda don’t want to take them off or stop listening. They are quite a non fatiguing pleasant listening experience. But yea, that’s their one flaw I’d say and it’s not even really an “error” I’ll say on Ecoutes part. I did talk to them and they said they would be looking into maybe a smaller version or just I’m hoping a headband replacement. They are built phenomenally well. All aluminum and fabric as far as I can tell aside from three buttons which are a high quality plastic. The change from faux leather to fabric I’m not the biggest fan of, but it’s by no means bad. It’s a good fabric, but the color is rather toned down, which I’m slightly disappointed in because I love the contrast of the bare aluminum with that tan leather. All in all, for those who backed this, even if you might have the slight sizing issue I’m experiencing, I believe you’ll be more than pleased with what Ecoute managed to pull off here especially from the ground up as a first in its class sort of thing. It’s so much more than a gimmick, and the team behind it you could tell we’re passionate about this project.
@Benjamin_Webster you and your team should be quite proud of what you guys made hear (pun intended, couldn’t help it). Can’t wait to see what you’ll do for your next project!
Has anyone else here received their set?
Hi all! I’m new here, and I found this thread because I just received my Ecoute headphones and I was curious what other people thought about them. Seeing that there’s only one other post from a user, I’ll add my thoughts.
My first impressions have been overwhemingly positive, but I’ll add that I’m likely a more casual listener than most folks here. I’m a vocal musician, and unsurprisingly clarity, warmth and a well-developed mid-range are important to me. In that capacity, the Ecoute set absolutely shines. My usual sets are a Sennheiser HD 6XX and a SteelSeries Arctis Pro, so I’m not working with super-high end points of comparison, but these are legitimately the best sounding headphones I’ve ever used.
I’ll mention that, unlike the other user who posted here, I have a giant bucket of a skull. I extended the Ecoute before putting it on and was shocked at how much space I had, so I can absolutely see how they could be big on someone with a small head. In my case, the large size is a blessing, with the cups sitting nicely over my ears and the band resting properly on my head.
The set feels solid, and the buttons function nicely. We just moved and I don’t have my cables unpacked yet, so I haven’t tried them wired, but the Bluetooth connectivity has been clean and steady. Running the Hi-Res settings on my Qobuz playlists has resulted in some really stunning quality, so I’m looking forward to trying them wired and with other audio sources.
The noise cancelling appears to work nicely, but I don’t frequently use ANC, so I can’t offer comparisons. The shift to transparent mode is very evident, and though I can’t hear my space as well as I can with my open 6XX set, I’d be comfortable using them in a setting where I’d need to be aware of my surroundings.
Lastly, I haven’t noticed much more heat than I have with other closed-back sets. I’ve only got a few hours of listening in thus far, but I tend to run hot and extra heat would quickly become an issue. Is there more heat? I think so. How much more? Enough that I think it is more, but not so much that I’m confident putting a number on it. 5% perhaps?
Perhaps the best thing I can say about them is that my audiophile wife is now playfully pissed at me about this. She’s got a closet full of excellent audio gear, and after trying out the Ecoute set for a bit she handed them back to me and said “I think you have better headphones than I do… How the hell do you have better headphones than I do?”
Looking forward to seeing what others think!
I gotta say, seeing the gunmetal finish on that is making me regret the satin aluminum finish I chose haha. That gunmetal came out way nicer. About the headband, it would appear in the kickstarter page that enough people had had an issue with the sizing that Ecoute has said they would look into a smaller headband option. I did what some other users on there had suggested and bought a headband pad off of Amazon and it does the trick mostly. Really ruins the aesthetic of the headphones but atleast they sit on my head properly haha. It’s nice to see that you are thoroughly enjoying your set as much if not more than I am and that you made the wife jealous on the process. That’s always a bonus! . Just out of curiosity, what gear does she have?
Hey, My name is Kendal. I am one of the founders of écoute audio.
I just wanted to pop in and say how much I have enjoyed reading this thread. It was fun to read the past comments and questions when we were first discovered by forum member all the way through to listener reviews. Thanks!
