Entry Level Electrostatic Headphones

Yeah. Stax makes true electrostatic IEMs if I recall…

yeah. Not as heavily priced as I thought they’d be

Yup, picked those up instead of the tapes lol

There’s also the Shure es IEMs that use the Limo Cable too

I was looking at those, and tbh they were very good, but I personally preferred the stax because of the more open sound. The Shure were more aggressive and close, and the stax just sounded more interesting imo

There’s also the benefit of the standardized stax connector wheras the Shure IEMs can only work with that energizer…

Also true, I can use it on other estat amps

lol thinking about my planned Estat rig again and wondering how much overkill it would be to stick in something like 2 300 watt monoblocks for each channel rather than the parasound or Bryston amps I was looking at.

It would be kinda overkill but that’s not a bad thing lol

I ended up selling my iesl for an actual estat amp and it’s more convenient to not have to hook up to an amp lol

Yeah I’ve been thinking about that too. Though I like my planned set up, I’m wondering if just that new expensive Stax energizer would be ultimately cheaper (also limited floor space atm). Since it does the awful dual knob balance thing but can defer to an external preamp for volume control I can get that silver volume control Zeos bought and use that

I ended up with a woo 3ES Elite and it’s soo good

Checked it out. Bit rich for my blood atm (If it were CAD, it may be another story, but the Woo Audio site lists it in USD) But something to look out for in the future.

TBH, the reason I got it was because I convinced the guy I bought the shang from to sell it to me as well and also sold him my iesl. But yeah it’s a bit pricey for what it is

I noticed most planars are open. Are their nor semi open or Closed back besides the Monoprice, argons and Fostex under 350$ ?

Under 350, perhaps you could also find some oppo pm3/pm2/pm1 used if you are lucky, or some audeze el8 used. You might be able to find an aeon flow closed used if you are lucky.

which do you think suits for general listening with clear vocals and fun sound ?

Talking about a closed planar? What options would you be able to get?

Used aeon flow are like shiny pokemon rare and hard to catch as they will never sell below 500 from my searches. Audeze closed are more uncommon to be sold below 350 which is more likely to get same for Argons. Oppo isn’t a headphone company so I’d avoid it.
So far I’m favoring Argons MK3 and the Audeze( though I have yet to see the reviews for the audeze). The cables, amp, dacs and ear cushions availability will also determine my choices.

Huh, I have seen an afc go for around 400 bucks multiple times. The argons are pretty comfy and are built pretty well, but do need alot of power for on the go usage (and desktop for that matter)

Where did you find that ?

ebay and also local classifieds on headfi and avexchange. I have just seen them, I don’t remember any specific examples
