Entry Level Electrostatic Headphones

Really? Well I may know someone using an amp with 600wpc… And I don’t think he’s had any issues

Okay. Cool. That’s reassuring.

I’m not recommending doing that lol, but the marantz shouldn’t pose many problems imo

Yeah. I guess I’m a little paranoid because electrostats seem to be fragile and I dont want to destroy any pair I buy by accident

Entirely understandable lol. You could limit the volume with a passive line level control no problem

Bringing this up again because I saw stax’s new totl energizer and it brings back that dual channel balance volume control like the koss esp 95x energizer for some reason lol

I’m sorry but I just dont understand the dual channel knob. Why not just 2 knobs. Or a stepped attenuate. I mean the thing has a setting to defer to an external volume control as well. Just bewildering.

Apparently the 129$ Shuoer Tape Electrostatic IEMs got “as much detail retrieval” as Stax.

Just mentioning this because the name of this thread :stuck_out_tongue: And maybe you would want cheap portable estats, heh.

Cheap portable estats. Damn, chi-fi, what are you becoming!

That’s pretty awesome.
Unfortunately iems cause me physical pain to use them. So that sucks :frowning:

I ordered the Koss package last week and I am in Canada so I can give you an exact price in the next few days. I was nervous that DHL picked them up, but they hand off to the post office. Should just be the HST due when they get here.

The tape isn’t an estat, but it really doesn’t matter if it sounds good lol

Curious to see what you think of them :+1:

You and me both.
I am currently locked into a certain combo and have been for several days: Cavalli LCX and Beyer T5p.2’s. Really a nice pairing, IMO.

That sounds pretty nice, does it warm up the sound a bit or do anything to the high end?

I find it smoothes them out and gives them a nice bit of warmth.

Kind of how I like the Grado GH2 and the Vali 2. This combo works very well for me, whereas I didn’t like the T5p.2’s with the Vali 2 much at all.

Gotta find that synergy.:grinning:

Hello again. I got my E95X from MassDrop today. Actually picked it up at my local drug store/post office.

You initially made a comment about funky charges on deliveries and I wanted to mention that I have never seen that with a MassDrop shipment. This is probably my seventh MassDrop purchase and they have all gone the same (except under $100.00 just go straight through regular mail). I live in Nova Scotia.

  1. DHL pick up the package
  2. They pass it to Canada Post at the border.
  3. Shipping is slowest of any retailer anywhere. Always two weeks.
  4. Pick up at Post Office and pay HST (15% in Nova Scotia).

These cost me about $424.00 in US bucks, including shipping. When MasterCard converts it, it works out to about $570.00. And today I had to pay $88.00 (HST) at pick up.
With MassDrop, you will never get a “lower value” on the package or skate on the taxes. With anything on MassDrop, take the price with shipping, multiple by 1.35% and add your sales tax in your province and that is your total. If you were unlucky enough to have DHL deliver your package they would collect the tax and then charge you fifteen dollars for collecting the tax.

How have you been feeling about them? And what do think it does for your collection? (if you have had time to listen to them yet)

They sound great and I think are a keeper. The bass is weak, but I also feel that way about my Grado’s and Beyer’s. Nothing the Loki can’t fix.

Sounded Weird out of the box. I always find there is a transition phase when changing headphones. For the past week I only played my T5p.2’s out of my LCX.

When I put these on the bass was gone, the vocals seemed to be in hiding and the overall sound was weird. Small maybe?

Two hours later I was into them. Vocals sound “right” and the overall sound is impressive. Loki is required for rock. Lack of bass not really noticed in jazz.

At this point, I would say they are comparable to my big guns. Of course I am sure there is some “shiny new toy” stuff going on right now.:grinning:

So far, it is looking like a good purchase, but time will tell. PLENTY of power for me.

(Sorry for the late reply) apparently it’s an (obviously tiny) electrostatic driver.

The reason why Zeos thinks there’s “as much detail as Stax” may just be the huge 3-4k 10dB spike, shoving treble down your ear canal like damn Grados (source: BGGA).

If it was a real electrostatic driver you would need an energizer. It’s a precharged driver that I can’t think of the name right now
