Holy crap they actually have bass now. Anyone else a firm believer in EQ? I do some car audio stuff and it’s mandatory so I figured why not tweak the headphones to my liking as well.
I did a low shelf filter, and had to find the right frequency to roll it off to keep it from sound muddy, ended up getting it where it sounds amazing, tight and clean, just MORE than they come out of the box with.
Also did a very very slight bump up top to add just a touch of pizzaz.
Didn’t hear much bass first, and way too much treble. I pressed the earcups on my head and heard what I wanted. So I put my HD58Xs over a little box for 8 hours to crush the pads (heresy!). Woke up, put them on my head, and they were perfect for me.
Yup. Crushing the pads, swapping the pads, twisting the headbands… or moving speakers near or away from the wall, are “universal EQs” for every source.
@gregrob, my background is also car audio. I laugh when I hear audiophiles speaking about bass, two different worlds… anyway, for folks like us EQ’ing is the ONLY way to find any satisfaction in high end audio, that and running our subs HOT when we play heavy synthesized bass. I got an EQ from a company called Bellari audio, model eq570. https://www.bellariaudio.com/index.php/products/eq570-audio-equalizer/ It’s not as well known as the JDS labs or Shitt but it works well and the price is right. I have it in line with all my headphone amps and find it absolutely necessary to get my cans to play the way I like my music at times. Enjoy buddy.
