I’m currently looking for a DAC/AMP-combo (Seperate DACs / AMPs are also ok.) for my DT880 (600OHM).
Currently i’m using a Schiit-stack with the Modi 2 and Magni 2, the problem i have with these is that it takes over an hour to get recognized within Windows.
I asked around Reddit and it seems that the USB-chip from the Modi 2 is on it’s way out.
Schiit’s support wrote to me, that they could try to get a new board from the US. but they do not know the price of it, and it would be better to get a completely new model. (Which currently is not an option, because the EU-stock is basically not existent.)
I’m now looking for something new to power my 880s, price-range should be around 200€ and it should be available within the EU.
After a short Google-search i found out about the Fiio K5 Pro which i can get here for around 160€.

only one that comes to mind is soundblasters g6… other units with a mic input aren’t going to drive the 600 ohm beyers other than mayflower but thats outside your budget.
not a fan of k5 but if I recall correctly it does work to power the 880s I just wasn’t a big fan of it’s sound quality compared to dedicated units like magni 3+ + modi, jds atom, etc
Like i said, the microphone-in is not necessary. I rather buy something without it than something worse with it.
Are there any alternatives to the K5 Pro that are available here in the EU?
forgot about schiit hel as well that has quite the amount of power to it.
within 200 euro that can drive an 880? the two combo units I listed would work, ifi zen dac if the 880 is balanced but will need a specific balanced cable for this, k5 would work, any of the typical 200 monetary entry level stacks would work if they can be found within your area… thats jds atom stack, monoprice liquid spark stack, can add toppings D10 dac to any of the amps for the stack, schiit magni modi stack. Not that many I can think of within that price budget
I saw the Schiit Hel while looking for a replacement, but it’s always out of stock. This is true for almost all of the other Schiit-products that would work for me.
I don’t know if the 880s are balanced, i’m using the stock-cable. (It’s not detachable.)
JDS is also not available here, as well as Monoprice-products.
Topping on the other hand i can get either from Amazon or from a french retailer. They seem to have a few options, like the L30/D10s-combo or the DX3 Pro.
I could wait a little bit longer to get the E30/L30-combo, but i don’t know if that’s recommended for a setup like i have.
nope, need to do a mod to make them balanced otherwise it’s unbalanced.
I definitely like the E30 and the L30 packs quite a lot of power… I think it’s a nice stack granted its slightly more expensive than the entry. Yeah, could always go l30/D10 as well…
