Why btr5 sounds so damn good?..aneh sekali

do you think a BTR5 can power hifiman sundaras and DT 770 250 ohms… when i make more money that might be my next step after these 58X

probably wouldn’t be the best, maybe ok in balanced. I’ll have a sundara in the next few days to tell you for sure. The 770’s cant be balanced without modding afaik so i’d say they probably wouldn’t work very well.

The btr5 could run the sundara’s maxed out. Just know that battery life with planars with BTR5 is about half as it would be driving IEMs.

i’d be using it on USB so thats safe

Annoying experience with USB. If you’re near your bluetooth connection it WILL cut over. There are ways to set priority with the app I suggest you play around with and try out.

hadn’t considered that but yeah very good point. I’d take M0N’s advice here if you want to portably drive headphones you’re probably looking at a different device like an nano black label or xduo 05+. Sundara’s would not be my first pick for an out an about headphone either, but i do use my btr5 around the house cleaning and doing chores so i see the use case.

i was mostly thinking about it as a ā€œUSB to use as a default new DAC… then when i get a phone without a headphone jack i can use this as a bluetooth DAC as wellā€

Hipdac or Dragonfly Red is better for that.

I’d say for me personally if this is going to be you primary amp/dac for pc and on the go, you’re probably going to want something different with more headroom to power something like a sundara, or future upgrades. Don’t get me wrong I love my btr5 but it is strictly my on the go IEM device

i thought about the hip dac… it was my 2nd idea… my only question is will it be too warm that it muddies up some sound

dragonfly red i dunno about because no support for formats higher than 96K/24…

Schiit Hel. I can drive my Blon B20 on my Fulla 3 and the Hel is just an amp DAC with about 3/4 of the power of a Schiit Heresy and more than a JDS labs Atom. $189 and you get A LOT for the price. Same amp style as the Schiit Magni Heresy.

I see this recommended a lot, and actually seen a lot of people pair with the 58x as the first full chain. never used one myself

It’s a solid performer, warmer sounding amp (but not as warm as the hip dac)

thats a bit on the pricier side at about 200 bucks

you can always check used to get cheaper prices, although i’d be a little wary of buying a used device with a non-replaceable Li battery. Maybe an open box or bstock. Quickly looking i see a few on ebay for 150 and below.

eh i feel like i’ll have a high chance of faultyness from that… i’m going with hipdac or dragonfly probably

Duke, this is my take on the BTR5 and the Sundara’s…

I personally found my sundara’s sounded a bit wonky out of the btr5 SE connection. It definitely powered them at an ok volume but compared to my desktop setup it felt like a decent drop in clarity. Kinda reminded me of the way my it03s sound direct out of my old phones 3.5mm. not sure if this is a power or dac thing but it was not my favorite admittedly did not spend too much time trying it.

Currently own a Samsung s10 and I’m disappointed with the audio quality that it outputs. Would the dac in the btr5 take over my phone’s dac and make it sound better?
