🔶 FiiO FD5 Flagship Single dynamic driver

That graph comparison is exactly why I decided to buy the FD5, but in reality they sound very different. FD5 treble is just offensive.

Crinacle´s urbanfun is most likely the noble metal version.

How does one know if the Urbanfun is beryllium or noble metal, without opening it up?

By sound I guess…

Mine sounds very similar to the FH3 bass and that one is also a beryllium coated iem.

You can actually open up the nozzle filter and peak at the driver itself. The noble metal driver is matte and sort of opaque while the Beryllium driver is shiny and very reflective.

Beryllium version is said to have better bass in all aspects and slightly lower brightness if I recall correctly.

Just arrived, really impressed by the presentation, gonna be a fun night

If you find the treble sharp or offensive, try a pure copper cable, a warm amp+dac, the narrow nozzle and perhaps foam tips. I like silicon best, but gotta be ones that tame the treble.

For me the switch to a copper cable got me 75% there, I’d be interested in your take there.

Ok good cuz wow is it sharp just out of the box, I’m just on a Apple dongle for a bit while I make dinner, will have more time to tip roll and stuff a bit later, any cables as nice as this though cuz I really like it

Here is a good all-copper cable. Excellent build quality too. It would probably be closer to $200 outside of China from a boutique cable shop.

In the meantime, try the narrow nozzle with the vocal tips. Stage will reduce in size but imaging will increase in focus and a lot of the treble roughness should go away.

Also None of my quarter inch adapters work anybody else have this issue I’ve tried literally nine of them

Why not just simply EQ them?

There should be one in the included accessories? Maybe I’m wrong there.

Acoustic EQ is less harmful to the signal. Digital EQ introduces distortion.

Not quarter inch, this is the first time I’ve ran into this weird. Man this treble is something else, I like the resolution but holy hell

Is the treble comparable to the Beyerdynamic (specifically the dt-880)?

I personally think it’s more offensive than the DT990 which in turn is more offensive than the DT880.

Huh, I don’t have DT990, but have DT880 and FD5 and I find FD5 actually could use a bit more trebles

again im just on a dongle and no burn in, for some reason none of my 1/4 adaptors work so i cant test on my desk. yes the treble can get super sharp which is a bummer cuz i really like the resolution, the see through part of it…i do like how you can switch tips on the fly, makes using the BTR5 way easier than having two cables…im gonna keep evaluating and burning in but not sure if im keeping regardless if the treble comes down, might just get the Oxygen for classical and go straight to the Monarch

Hmm I’ve never had problems with treble so I’m still interested but it’s good to keep in mind. Might skip it after all though. The cable and the semi open design really speak to me though.
