šŸ”¶ FiiO FH3 2BA 1DD

Ive been hyped, so here is my review.

At $130, the fh3 is a decently built iem with nice accesorries. No complaints there. New cable reccomended, but not neccasarry. They also fit really nice. The sound over all is good. The bass is what stands out to me as far as performance. Nice sub bass wub wub, that can rumble the ear canals, but at times itā€™s too much/messy. On Flowers in Your Pocket by the Arcs, the bass hits way to deep and muddies the song, and it becomes unenjoyable, as if someoneā€™s sub woofer is too loud. On the Ikko Oh10, the bass hits low, and is better detailed. The stage is wider in the bass on the oh10 too, and isnt too jarring, a much more pleasant sub bass. Mids on the fh3 have decent clarity, but when the bass muddied in, I found myself sifting through to find the mids. The mids on the Moondrop Starfields where much more lush and separated. Fh3 doesnā€™t do anything special in the mids, but does have nice texture. As for the highs, they can be sharp/sibilant at times, kinda makes me wince at cymbals and crashes. Despite the highs being detailed and airy, i feel it lacks the natural timbre I found in the Starfields. The oh10s werenā€™t very airy, but i felt they where never offensive, like sometimes with the fh3. The stage on the fh3 is fine, nothing too crazy wide, but not super intimate. The imaging i feel is really limited, like on a flat plain, and central focused. Not very impressed, but not upset by it. Initially i was impressed with the fh3, mainly because of what the bass does, but after a few days, im less impressed. I much enjoyed the starfields and Oh10s more

Thanks for your reactions. I enjoyed reading them. It sounds like you tend to enjoy a more analytical sound profile than a ā€œfunā€ signature which the FH3 completely is. IMO, from your impressions, the Moondrop Blessing 2 would be a great step up, especially if you prefer the Starfield to the FH3. The Blessing 2 has a lot less bass than the FH3 and has great technicalities. For me, I love the bass in the FH3 and donā€™t feel itā€™s too much at all (some reviewers have said they could use even more). I find the Moondrop Starfield and KXXX much more analytical and thin sounding which is not my preference.

The B2 would be the upgrade for the Starfield, BUT only if BA timbre doesnt bother you. If it does I would say the Tanchjim Oxygen is better.

Nice rec! I havenā€™t heard the Oxygen, and probably never will. The Blessing 2 is not my thing either.

Yeah, too analytical for me and way too unatural with its BA timbre. The Oxygen beats it at what it does best, sounding clean and natural.

So what would you consider the Blessing 2 has over the Oxygen? Nothing?

Details, instrument separation and soundstage is a bit better, so it sounds a bit cleaner on the B2.

But when you go from the Oxygen to the B2, it sounds very unnatural.

EDIT: And sounding natural is litterally the point of having a neutral/referrence signatureā€¦

So, Moondrop canā€™t do natural sounding timbre in a BA yet. They do a pretty good job with their DDs.

Cant say if its better in the S8/A8, but yes the B2 does not have a natural timbre for the BA.

Not about to buy one to find out. Iā€™m moving away from Moondrop since all the QC unit variations started happening.

Not getting them cuz they dont have a DD for the bass. I need my DD for the bass at the very least (or maybe a Planar could work). But their price are way beyond my budget anyway.

All the planar (headphones) Iā€™ve owned have had shy bass. I only have two headphones (DDs) that can generally compete with the bass from IEMs (and that might still be a stretch). I havenā€™t heard a planar IEM yet (hope the P2 will live up to the hype) but I have hope that planar tech will eventually get to a point where the bass will be great without weighing 100 pounds on your neck. Planar detail & speed are fantastic.

EQ + P1 = awesome

The bass quantity of the fh3 is plenty, donā€™t mind that at all,but in terms of quality, not as good. I prefer a smoother neutral with some sub bass focus, lush forward mids, and non offensive highs. The fh3 doesnā€™t quite fit that. I would def say the bass is fun, but the mids and highs are not, and lacking in timbre, stage, and seperation, compared to the starfields,oh10, and teas. Ive read that the blessing2 has pretty sharp highs, and not much bass. So idk if i would care fir that iem. Thanks for the feedback!

huh, that is exactly my takeaway from your reactions (more treble detail and less bass). Sounds like the Blessing 2 would be a great option for you.

Ha ha. I completely disagree. The Starfield bass is undefined, slow and un-textured compared to the FH3. Maybe this is how you describe ā€œsmoothā€ bass? I can see how some might feel the bass in the FH3 could sound unnatural because of its speed, control, detail and texture. None of the IEMs you mentioned can match the FH3 in those areas, but again, you might not enjoy how technical the FH3 is at bass. You might prefer a more traditional/laid-back approach. Non-beryllium DD might be your preference?

What is the focus of your P1 EQ, the bass?

Fixes the anemic bass, makes male vocals warmer and more tonally correct (for my library) and fixes a bit of the ā€œplanar flavourā€ in the treble.

EDIT: I did only intend to fix the bass, the rest are bonuses lol.

Cool. They fit my taste perfectly, when I EQ the bass; not much, but enought to actually hear a bass.
So I am very much anticipating the P2

Are you using my preset?

But yeah the P2 is something i am looking forward to, but since it is taking so much time I am thinking of skipping it and only get the LZ A7 (coming next month).

The chances that tin hifi will do something similar to my eq preset + P1 is unlikely since that is the opposite of their house tuning.

Nope, have not seen it.
I have the Fiio FH3, the P2 and the LZ A7 on the radar. I may get them all or not; I am waiting for the reviews for the latter 2 and is still contemplating the Fiio.
