First Higher Level Headphone (LCD-X) and curious about amp / dac upgrade

Hey all!

First time poster here.

I finally pulled the trigger on some LCD-X’s and am in love with these headphones. I am currently running them through a Schiit Stack and it sounds great. Playing with high and low gain is fun too. (Although admittedly not that educated here and would love thoughts on how to optimize listening experience there) I think I am open to start researching more deeply about amps and dacs that would be an upgrade without going insane…1k range probably most of what I’d like to spend.

I have been watching Youtube videos on how to learn how to read amps but feel like a potato with information bouncing off of me. I know the LCD-X’s are relatively easy to drive so I’d like something that has a range of low / high gain options to play around with and give myself more control. (Please tell me if I am woefully misguided here as well. LOL)

This community seems passionate and friendly to new comers like myself and thought I’d pull from the depth of knowledge and perspectives y’all had.

Any who…thanks for reading this far and thanks!

I did the same thing in the past and in the end the Bifrost 2 + RNHP was the best upgrade I could have asked for. The modius will be great in a pinch if you want to save some money (but you’ll want the BF2 longterm).

And yes, the LCD X so easy to drive a Schiit Fulla 3 can drive it competently power wise.

Schiit stack is great  Which ones do you have?
What headphones were you using before the X? Asking because I’m also considering getting them :yum:

Welcome to the forum!

That’s awesome. Yeah, I figure I am getting enough power to do the month’s of research for amp + dac. LOL.

I hate the battle of aesthetic + functionality. It has to look great on the desk too.

I have the Modi 3 and Magni 2 Uber.

I have the Modi 3 / Magni 2 Uber right now.

Had the SMSL T1 tube amp additionally but decided to sell that to a friend. It was a really hot amp that I couldn’t get past like 1/3 volume. haha.

Before I was rocking the DT-770 250 ohm closed backs. Those are pretty good but didn’t have much separation in comparison IMO.

Also have a pair of Shure SE 425 IEMs which work quite nicely on the Schiit stack. Low gain settings though.
