First setup advice: headphones, DAC & AMP

I can hear why now lmao
I think the one thing that bothers me is that I do have to run them on a higher volume per say to get them where I like em’ to be but other than that these are great. They may just be my headphones for all day use since they’re that good. Now I just need a dongle for my phone and we’re set to go

oooh! you bought the wrong ones /facepalm! The KSC75 are the good ones! They need the headband mod though.

Funny enough I was pushing to grab those to and try em’ out but my folks wouldn’t have any of it lol.

I also prefer the ksc75 but I know other people who prefer the warmer sound of the porta or 30i. Really comes down to preference. Also don’t really have any issues with the way they fit (ksc75)

Well, I ended up returning the kph30i, but in turn I got me the 4XX. They just shipped today, so hopefully they’ll arrive soon. The amp I’ve yet to order for the time being, but for now I’m excited.

Shipping took long enough, but I’m glad they’re here. They feel really nice to hold and use. Glad the dogs woke me up to the mailman today lmao!

Ooooo what are your first impressions?

My first impressions are…
I’m very spoiled by Amazon Prime shipping rofl

Nah, gimmie a little bit, I gotta handle some small stuff before taking a listen.

do you have your source gear yet?

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to listen off integrated for the time being. I’ve yet to buy an external amp/dac, since most of my allowance money went to college apps. I would have actually been able to afford an Asgard 3, but college stuff came first. It was only with some extra work that I was able to grab the 4XX, but nothing else for now.

That being said, from what I’m listening to, I believe I can really hear the difference, and it’s really good.

I get you. enjoy what you for now. just remember you dont need an asgard to drive those

I understand that, but after a bit of looking around, I thought it would be nice to have an all-in-one that I wouldn’t have to worry about power for practically anything. Even if it would barely fit on my desk.

Yeah it should be fine off of whatever :+1: have fun with it lol

One interesting tidbit, I do have to max out the virtual volume adjustment in windows to get them to a level I’d find listenable.

On the other hand, these sound fantastic. These have so much better imaging than I thought. In orchestral recordings, I can hear fainter instruments I’ve never heard before in the Krakens, and even tell the general direction they might be in. Everything sounds more resolving and fuller, and in said orchestral tracks, everything has a much greater sense of space to them, and it’s awesome.

Once you use them for a couple days they get better too lol

Well, I certainly am looking forward to that lol. For a first dive into Planars, these have exceeded my expectations.

Do ya have any recommendations for a headphone stand? I liked the look of the Razer Base Station Chroma but I ended up finding a demo unit and was disappointed at the build quality. I’m not really sure I like most of the other options on Amazon either.

I can’t really help you on that one since I don’t use stands lol. I think there is a threads on good stands

Considering I nearly have enough to buy the A3 without a DAC unit, would it still be a good idea to grab the base A3 and add the dac later down the line?

Yeah that sounds pretty sweet imo, allows you to upgrade the dac later on too. What headphones are you thinking again? Edit: It’s teh 4xx, didn’t pay attention for a sec
