First setup advice: headphones, DAC & AMP

The he1 is great, but imo when I heard it I don’t think it was worth what they ask. I would only consider it if it was 20k and below imo. I think you would be a fair bit better off just buying a nice speaker setup for that price they ask or a nice full chain for other headphones.

it’s true…but like the review Z just put up for the Stelia…he loved their sound, not their technicalities. some headphones are meant for analyzing your music, not for fun.

how was the Jade 2 vs the HE1?

Well the he1 kinda blows out the jade for sure, but the jade is still pretty solid, as it has a more natural timbre compared to other estats, but has its flaws and imo is let down by the stock energizer it comes with. But for sure not on the level of the he1

how do you think your 007 Mk2 will stand up to the HE1?

Better then the jade, but I still don’t have an energizer for it yet, so I don’t think i’ve spent enough time with either to come to a conclusion. I guess I could compare to my sonoma m1, but I just noticed that we are in a thread called “First setup advice: headphones, DAC & AMP.” Not really the right thread to be comparing high end estats lol

Heh. Honestly I want to eventually work up the chain of headphones, and possibly have a little collection myself, but that’s just my dreamer side talking. If anything, I want to see if LCD X or 2Cs will end up being my eventual endgame, but in the meantime, I’ll stick around with what I have until I can be sure that splurging a bit on a personal desktop setup won’t screw me over later when I’m paying for college tuition lmao. But if anything, I have a good starting list, I just need the time to work up enough funds to get to that first.

Yeah lol, make sure you have your priories straight before diving in

Of course. If it means I have to wait a little while longer to finally dive into some better audio, then by all means, I’ll wait. Chances are when I finally have the money to spend, something better for me will be out there.

Yup, good things come to those who wait, so that’s something to look forward to. The IEM market is rapidly growing with better and better value by the day, so that’s something else to keep an eye on

Sounds about right. Y’know, as much as I try things out, I can never really accustom to the fit of earbuds or IEMs. I think my time spent with on/over ears have really spoiled me for comfort.

It kind of depends on your ear shape and size weather iems can be viable for you. You might find some that fit, but you still may prefer headphones, which is just fine. I was just noting how fast the iem market has been moving compared to headphones or speakers

That’s a fair point, sure seems that IEMs are moving in a pretty great direction when it comes to fidelity and pricing.

Fair enough. I’m sure the craze’ll get me once I’m done and over with most of the bigger things I need to deal with first.

What was max price your willing to spend? I was going to recommend monoprice 788. I really enjoyed its sound and for 500 it’s great dac/amp.

That’s pretty overkill (and pricey) for a first setup

Just jump into the deep end I wish I had. would have saved more money. Just keep saving till you hit that point. Eventually the high bug hits. I’ve collected the amps I want now off to 1 more dac think one you told me about. You get 788 and your set for long time.

True, but you could get the fiio k5 pro and be set for along time and save a fair bit of money to actually put more towards better headphones. Not everyone is going to feel the need to by a headphone where you would need something like the 788 desktop

I never checked that one out. Is just a portable unit?
