No, it is a desktop dac and amp combo for 150 usd that tbh is more then most people will need. Plenty of power, very clean (not the atom but still great), plenty of inputs and outputs, good dac, and a solid unit overall. It just makes more sense to take those savings and spend more on the headphones themselves
Then you need talk him into the fiio option and buy better headphone then 4xx
Do you research all equipment because you seem to know a lot?
Not everyone can afford to drop over 300 on a pair of headphones, especially as a college student with future debt and no or small income
Mainly just for fun, and I’ve heard so much and have lots of connections with people in industry and a group of other enthusiasts, so I can typically try whatever I want, and I am always interested in new gear, both in the high and lower end. I won’t recommend something that I have not personally heard (but I might suggest they go check it out if it seems like something they might be interested in if I know about it)
well lucky you ya bastard lol
I need connections. I’d wet myself if I could try stuff out.
You must answer these 4 incredibly difficult questions in order to be invited into our prestigious audio equipment cult
-
Your credit card number
-
The three numbers on the back
-
Your mothers maiden name
-
Your full name and address
Once you have answered these questions you can try out as much gear as you like provided by the cult using non associated funds
Do you need ssn? I got one of those…
A simple way to try out new things is to find local groups and meetups where you live with other enthusiasts. Asking around can also be helpful to find these people as well. Also look for events and see if you can attend any. This is very dependent on where you live, but it can be a nice way to know more people and have a fun time and try out gear at the same time
The person who dist. in North America for Violectric lives like 1 1/2 way from me I should ask him.
That’s probably a solid plan, just see who you can reach out to
If you looked up the thread, I was looking at Hifiman HE-4XXs paired with a JDS Labs Atom, and a Topping D10. So in total we’re looking at $370 for everything.
So say I looked into a combo like the Origen G2. Or any other Dac/Amp combo that’ll work for 70-100 dollars. Would I really be better off getting that, and finding slightly higher end headphones, or stick with the first setup suggested.
If anything, I’d personally grab something inexpensive once my Krakens die out - like the Koss KPH-30i for my desktop, and wait until I can manage a stable income to make a deep dive into high end, to save me some cash and not go through an update path.
It’ll be a good while, but if it means It’ll put less strain on me when schoolwork and tuition fees will be hammering away at my ability to pay for other things, then I feel that it’ll be more worth rewarding my work with some great equipment.
The D10 and atom is solid plan with 4xx but mon mentioned to me the Fiio k5 for $150.00. He said it dac /amp. I have the D10 with Aune x7s. which is not expensive and sounds really good. The D10 would be with almost any amp.
looked up Origen G2 on ebay seeing different prices going around $140.00
I would not suggest the origen g2, as imo it’s underpowered and not that great
The fiio q1 mk2 or k3 is pretty much at 100 USD, but the fiio k5 pro just makes more sense for 50 USD more, a substantial upgrade
I looked up the k5 pro and like it. It’s Fiio you can’t go wrong with that brand.
I’m enjoying my Fiio M7 of course I’m using an portable amp.
How does the K5 Pro compare to the likes of the D10/Atom combo in regards to sound quality?
Oh, and also, would there be any other options for “better” headphones opting for the K5, rather than the separate combo?
