šŸ”¶ Focal Clear Mg

Itā€™s so weird you say that; if you scroll up a little further you can see I made a post about also trying out the Dekoni velours on them. Iā€™m very sensitive to treble and the velours, for me, made them very dark and relaxed everything.

Iā€™m not at all saying you donā€™t hear what you hear, more saying that like @Resolution said, playing around with pads may not yield the same results for everyone lol

Focal headphones are pretty rigid and they more or less stay in the same position. I have a ZMF Salire and while itā€™s elegant, the Focals donā€™t really sit right on them because they donā€™t ā€œcollapseā€ down on the sides; the rigidity of the headband means the cups just sort of float off on the sides.

I know the Focal stand is expensive and out of my price range as well, but if you do get something Iā€™d recommend finding something that replicates the curvature of it so that it supports the headphones in the middle. I got a pair of these and theyā€™ve been supporting them pretty well, but you may want an individual stand.

I know I need to take it down and stain or paint it, but for $10 holds both my headphones and puts pretty much no strain on the Mgā€™s interior padding.

Thanks for the response, that 2nd link didnā€™t work for me sadly. I am thinking about getting something like this:

Or would those be bad for the headband

Ah, sorry - let me paste a pic of it then:

Yeah, I think that would work well!

Yep it is weird. I didnā€™t even hear or considered it as dark soundingā€¦ maybe the source/equipment setup?

Just got my custom Hart audio cable today for my MG Proā€™s!

Unfortunately, now I am just waiting on my Jotenheim/Modius to ship from Schiitā€¦not looking like anytime soon. For now its the basic coiled unbalanced cableā€¦

I own a few of these and I love them. Great for all the headphones Iā€™ve placed on them.

Yeah I am about to buy them. My only doubt is the height, will the connector hit the table the stand is on? Since they are quite long on the focal. That is my only fear now

Thanks!

P.s. first day with them I am really impressed, and I have a pretty mediocre dac/ampā€¦ (Schiit Hel 2).

Sorry about the bad photo, but the connectors do clear the base.

In regards to Etsy wooden stands, I have to give props to this guy. Iā€™m glad I got one of these rather than the Salire.

These look great, but I am not sure itā€™s good for the headphones to have them clamp against something all the time?

It depends on the headphone. Some will tolerate the clamp as that is the natural resting position to have the cups spread out, others would start to squeeze the pads over time.

You can see what they would be like in the resting position (as an overly simple test). If the pads touch each other then you might have an issue. Think of the difference between an LCD-X and a 6XX.

Itā€™s actually slim enough that the headphone are just touching them, but doesnā€™t stress outwards. Skinnier than a head and definitely skinnier than a yoga block

Nice, I ordered the rooms this morning.

I was going to splurge on one of the more expensive models anyway if I would have gone with that seller lmao. Since the focal have the spring loaded cups, I think it could hurt long term if they cannot rest in their natural position.

So, according to Resolve, who was on stream with TylersEclectic Thursday evening, the review sample that Joshua had is not representative of what the Clear Mg is supposed to sound like. Tyler is currently in possession of that particular unit, and while they arenā€™t exactly sure what is up with that unit, from his talks with Focal, Resolve said that it is much warmer than what it should be. Conversation starts at ~56:30.

Hi peoples,

I have the original clears and looking for dec + amp pairing. Itā€™s interesting reading through the thread.

Can someone point out the differences between Bifrost 2 + G111 combo and a one device solution Burson Conductor 3X Performance/Reference?

Cheers

Generally both are going to be more neutral leaning, but the conductor will be more forward neutral where the g111 will be a bit more relaxed in comparison.

The bf2 + g111 combo will pull ahead when it comes to technical performance, mainly because the DAC inside the conductor is very mediocre and the amp on it instead is much higher performing, but the amp is limited by the dac (which is why if you were interested in the burson sound I would rather suggest you get a soloist 3xp and an external dac like the bf2 to end up with a pretty superior result to the all in one).

But comparing the conductor to the combo, imo the bf2+g111 will have a larger and more spacious stage, lower level detail, better microdynamics, and a bit more smoothness overall. The conductor will have about equal timbre quality, better macrodynamics, more punch and slam but potentially less control, and sound a bit more clean and forward, and will have a bit more body. If you got the soloist + bf2 that would outperform the g111 and would be a higher level of performance overall to both the bf2+g111 and the conductor imo

Thanks, going by what you have described the BF2+G111 sounds like a more musical experience. The ā€œbetter microdynamic and smoothnessā€ appeals to me a lot more. I also read the BF2+Jot2/Asg3 had the same characteristics you described which leads me to believe BF2 is the main proponent behind it.

The problem with thee BF2 is going to be an eternal wait! 4-6 weeks!
