đŸ”¶ Focal Clear

I just noticed something on Drop: The Elex’s have a two year warranty now. I always thought it was one year. Makes them a Great buy at $599.00.

Overall I really have enjoyed the Elex however on tubes the Clear scales better in my opinion.

After receiving my Clear OG yesterday, I came here to say that I think that the look and presentation of the Clear OG really is something. It just looks like a luxury product.

Also, the right channel of the Clear sounds absolutely amazing. Really impressed with it.

I fixed them, and they’re amazing
Listening to The Phosphorescent Blues album by Punch Brothers and I’m kind of blown away. Never has a pair of headphones been more aptly named (of course, if they’d named it “Unreliable” that would also be appropriate).

Glad you sorted them out, they’re such nice headphones, definitely my favourite headphone experience I’ve had so far!

They’re sold out on Headphones.com. Does that mean that’s it? Did they have all of the last of the Clears, or are there still some from the final production run that they haven’t received yet?

I guess if that’s it, I’m glad that I got mine when I’d did.

Edit: I guess they’re still receiving more. Kind of makes me wonder when their final production run will end, and if they’re continuing it because it continues to sell. Strikes me with as popular as it is, they’d be kind of silly to close an existing production line for anything new unless they’re not making money on them (highly, highly unlikely). Makes me wonder if they’re milking the “oh, they’re discontinued” thing to push more sales

Hello, I have some crossed thoughts about this product.

I don’t know what it is, but I notice that I don’t quite enjoy it. Does it sound bad to me? No. The only thing I could criticize is that it is a little rough.
I can’t explain what I don’t like/want more.

I have tried several amplifiers and I notice that it starts to wake up with 120mw at 32 ohms making the sound more attractive. With less power (mobile) I find it mediocre. That’s the right word.
Is it a lack of power?

With this thread I try to find out if there are people in my situation who can help me make a decision either in another “better” option or “tips” to take advantage of Clear Og.

All the best

I too was conflicted about this headphone when I first bought it.

I started appreciating it when I got the tube and cable pairing right. Yes, not only do I need to have the right tubes on my WA7, but I also need to use the stock cable with it. Since most people detest Focal’s stock cables, I replaced them before they even arrived. Big mistake in my case, at least in terms of sound quality.

In short, try them on tubes. If your amp won’t change, consider changing the cable. You’ll find they like a balanced connection too, FYI. Can’t prove it, but I can hear it

What have you tried using the Clear with so far?

Stock cable (the new one), stock pads, mobile phone.
I also change de cable and I Will buy Linsoul tripowin granVia. Maybe dekoni pads too.

I can vouch for the GranVia cable. I use one of those on my Radiance and it’s great. Looks great, feels great to wear, sounds fantastic. I got the purple one. I also use a black one on my HP-2. :+1:t2:

Does it sound different than the original? Can I notice differences?

Ah, I should have been more specific with my question, I meant what amps & DACs have you used them with?

As for the cable, you could also look at the Forza Noir Hybrid, Norne Vygarde, or if you have multiple headphones with 3.5mm connectors the Danacable Ultralite.

Can I guarantee that you’ll hear the difference? No. I can, and enough others can that these companies stay above water. But there are also plenty of people who nay-say and will tell you cables do not make a difference. I was one of those until I heard the difference for myself. I would say sort your amp out first. That’ll have a bigger impact than the cable. Something like the Quicksilver, one of the Feliks amps of you can get them used, the WA7
just stay away from the sub-$1k OTL tube amps. The Clear doesn’t have the impedance to pair particularly well with those.

Yes, yes it does. The original cable really wasn’t bad, it got the job done. But the Tripowin definitely improved things to my ear. I originally bought one for the Edition XS. The cable actually took away some of that aggressive top end and brought the mids and vocals more forward. Overall clarity improved as well.

The other thing I really enjoy about this cable is how well it wears. The reality of wired headphones is that you have to deal with the cable, and some cables can be a real pain in the butt to wear. They are stiff, heavy and so on. Not the Tripowin. It wears beautifully, making long listening sessions a breeze. And I think they look really nice. I bought the second one in purple to go with the Radiance, and frankly I think it looks fantastic. I am very satisfied with them.

It may be placebo but I am noticing differences in the aspect of spatiality with the cable of a hifiman R9 connected to the Focal Clear.
For the record, my focal clear cable is the second version. not that wide and strong fabric.

I just got the replacement pads from ZMF, Sound much better than stock, IMO. It will be preference, but they add a nice noticeable kick to the low-end. Like an extra 3-5db of bass. Less lean, more body, great for modern music, movies, and games. I also ordered the “headset cable” that are meant for the ZMF Bokeh, but the connectors are too fat to fit in the holes

I had the Clear MG and my God that bass slam for an open back. But it sounded shimmery to me and no amount of EQ could fix that. Have the same problem with Utopia. They excel at macros but not in micro details.

Did you order the Bokeh’s stock cable? It has fat connectors at HP end.

I heard it and found bass overrated
Could have been underpowered amp and first open-back I listened to in a while.
