🔷 Focal Elegia

Happy Elegia owner here. Just wanted to chime in and agree with this statement. These are some of the things that the Elegia does very well and it makes them fun IMO.

Yeah the dynamics are next level, the best I’ve heard, like on the elex and elear I remember they were too much, here they are spot on, the amount of detail is also impressive for their price.

Suprised Z did Elegia lol Anyone tried the celestee pads with these?

Been listening with the Elegia tonight, sounds pretty good with the dac1541+V281. It’s no TH900mk2, but still pretty nice. At least with the tracks I’ve been gettin my jam on with.

It’s not by accident that this headphone is considered by many as a “Gateway” headphone. It just does so much right.

Do you have the Elex by chance? I have looked at the Elegia many times as I love my Elex’s. Just wondering if it would be considered a closed Elex?

No, only Focal I have is the Elegia.

I did have both for a while, and while they share some characteristics, I would not say the Elegia is a closed Elex. Dynamics are more intense in the Elex, and the Elex has more of a W signature vs the Elegia being fairly neutral bright with a hint of mid forwardness.

I am pretty set for closed backs now, but the Elegia is always rolling around in the back of my mind.

Elex & Elegia = 120% same family. I would echo Elex is more intense.

DMS finally tried it and also liked it. I guess it’s better late than never, but Zeos and he are kinda late to the party since it is discontinued.

Speaking of the Elegia…from what I remember, replacement pads are $200? Found them for $120 (no tax and free shipping) and picked up a set.

When I first talked about the elegias in this thread I said they sounded fake to me, that holds true BUT (big but) its a kind of fake that I need to own. It’s an enhanced type of fake, it sounds very special just like DMS described, I would describe it as a very gorgeus but slight reverb on the mids.

This is something to have if you already own a good allarounder and after listening to every lower class focal I think it was the best of them, for its specialized kind of sound, I’ll get this gem for sure when I can.

Drunk me made a wise decision buying these headphones

Purchased these headphones on a whim (open box). I was enjoying them but not sure if I would keep them. Grabbed some Hart Cables (because the stock cables are what they are) and wow, they seem more open and it feels like a veil has been lifted. Glad I purchased them to compliment my Audeze LCD 2s.

At least since I bought them (around Ago 2020) the price is this. Don’t know if it’s different in their site or another retailer.

Interesting, the LCD 2 is on my watch list. How do they compare? Also, what model of LCD 2 you have? Fazor, pre-fazor?

I owned the elegias for a long time. Their timbre is good for most stuff including vocals and guitars. But their tonal balance is off enough to where you will eventually notice. Causing voices to not sound real, almost fake clean. Clean to a fault. Imo

yep, basically. and why did you sell them? you only like to have as few pairs as possible right?

Honestly, after spending more time with them. I just felt they lacked some of the soul and emotion I like in my music. I don’t know I just kinda have always been a timbre/tonality freak. Good and different tonal balance aren’t mutually exclusive but the elegia is different and not my fav tonal balance. Lower end focals have had the same effect to me. Only my focal speakers sound super organic.

I would say the LCD-2, Fazor (2016?) are more fun, Elegia is more into the music. Probably just the new toy syndrome, as I have only had the Elegia for a week or so. When my new HART Cables for the LCD-2 come in, it will be easier to try and compare them.
