Nice review! I mostly agree with you, although I would have a hard time saying the Elegia is āinoffensiveā. I feel like they are more this happened because of the headphones you compared it to. Then again, maybe this is just my perspective.
As for the āmusic recommendationā, I would like to know what kind of styles you hear. I particularly like some electronica in the Elegia because I like the dynamics and how well I feel like they resolve, even when a million things are happening.
You are probably right about the comparisons coloring my view of these. The Hemps and X00s are both very specialist tunings.
I also like electronic music with them, but the X00s do that better. They do classic rock well, but the Hemps do that better. That was my point in my review. The Elegia donāt particularly excel in any specific genre but they also rarely sound anything less than good. They are a great general purpose headphone.
If I had to pick what they do best, I think I would say really busy metal were the resolving capabilities can help and classical music were the other two can sound too thick or bassy. Some specific examples are the modern Doom soundtracks, jinjer, and the Hollow Knight ost.
Like I said, these are a jack of all trades, but a master of few.
Edit: dire straits sound pretty damn good right now. I wonder if the Hemps would sound better or not?
Selling mine at lightly used used but with nice upgrade cable. I find them as some have said mid focused, I tend to be slightly more of a bass head the more and more I get into this hobby. So these definitely donāt satisfy that desire with me, not when I could thrown on lcd3ās or listen to a 2.1 system.
Curious to see if you manage to get your asking price since the $400 runs. Also you might want to move this to the Buy/Sell and Looking for Thread under Off-topicā¦
I picked these up for a steal at $600 only about 2 months ago? but bought that cable for around $120. Plus all the shipping, itās just a starting price. I honestly just want to get something for it, we shall see if anyone bites. I see a bunch on eBay but a lot overseas.
definitely wouldnāt call that a āstealā at that priceā¦ quick google search and find several results within the $400 price bracket and itās been that way for some time now with most commonly known I believe was Adorama
After getting some focal clear MG, I am looking for an entry level Focal as a gift for my girlfriend. Where do you all find these 400$ Focal? I canāt find any in EUā¦ Could you provide a link? (open back prefered but closed back for 400 is a steal) Might even be cheaper to import them for that price!
Even on Ebay they are significantly more expensive.
Adorama.com did a run at $400 a few weeks ago. Theyāre currently out of stock on them and the price is listed at $900 again. Keep an eye on the deals thread, itāll get posted again if it comes up.
I might consider selling mine in a couple of weeks. Trying out a new headphone in the meantime. If youāre not in a hurry, feel free to send me a message if you havenāt found anything by then.
Found the ElegĆas for 499 Euros at Fnac, french site, it took less than a week to get them to Sweden. Really pleased with them. Itās a bargain.
Had listened to the Celeste but found more intimate than the ElegĆas.
You are going to have a very happy girlfriend.
Damn, still a bit more than I was planning to spend, but a great deal for sure. Was hoping to get some come into the 2nd hand market for 300 or soā¦ Not sure if that is realistic though, and maybe I should just buy theseā¦
p.s. how do you find these kind of deals in the first place? Been searching quite a bit past days but hadnāt seen theseā¦
p.s.2. Did you question them about warrenty @Perico might have to bite the bullet lol
Just searching, got lucky I guess.
My french isnāt that good, but the warranty for a new product should be at least 1 year being in the EU. They are solid built so if you just take care nothing should happen. They are still at fnac.com at 499. Fnac is a major chain in France by the way.
Looked on eBay but even used are more expensive. I saved basically 50% of the price in Sweden. Even if you getting cheaper outside the EU VAT comes into play. With Brexit a lot of audio stuff got more expensive and harder to find.
Does anyone have had any experience with Shipibo Audio in Polen. They make cables and they have an ear pad for Grados that I might fancy. Hard to find cables in the EU and buying in the Us is a hassle.
Thanks, came to the same conclusions but always nice to confirm with someone who has gone through the process. Looks like they have been on that price since January looking at their reviews. Thanks again, just gonna order these
Personally, for $400 I think these are phenomenal. Itās the best closed back office/travel set Iāve found. Easy to power, good isolation, that Focal sound. Couldnāt be happier with these for what I use them for. Theyāre not my go-to sitting at the computer and relaxing, but love them for work and travel.
Iāve had the elegias for more than a week now and Iām having a fantastic time. Itās my go to close back headphones, I have the dt 770 80ohms which was the only close back I had. But sinced I got the Focal Clear MG Iāve been wanting that focal sound in a close back formed, luckily Elegia was back on sale and couldnāt be much happier with the purchased.
Itās connected to a geshelli erish>smsl su-9 and enjoying every minute of it.
Also tried the Elegias for gaming and Iām surprised how everything sound good; Good separation, soundstage is about right (not to wide or narrow)
