So I ordered the Clear Pro Pads from Headamp.comā¦ But got this insteadā¦ Oof
Lol those are focal listen pro pads, might want to contact them about that
ohhhā¦ well at least they are Focalā¦ I was like āWTF is this?!ā At least the mixup is a bit more understandableā¦ Yeah Iāve already emailed themā¦ $150 is not something Iām willing to just let go.
Yeah looking at my clear pro, those are def not it lol. They are just red clear pads
They said they have 1 more of the Clear Pro padsā¦ and are sure it is the right one because they are perforated. They said they would send those out and send a return label for the ones I gotā¦
Well assuming the replacements pads are correct, they confirmed they are the right ones this timeā¦ they corrected the error really fast and I should have the right ones by Thursday.
I suggest to get the iFi Micro iDSD Black Label if going for a āportableā amp. It will have all the power for any headphone you might want in the future.
While I like mine for sure, I donāt think itās the best match for the elex, and practical as a daily carry amp compared to other options. I think something like the ifi xdsd might be a better option from ifi in this case
I was listening to the HD 6xx/650 today and ABing it with the Clear and they really ARE strikingly similar in my opinion. Not to say the Clear isnāt in every way an improvement over the 650ā¦ but IMOā¦ the term āSuper HD 600/650ā does make a lot of sense to me now. I have not heard the 650 in about 5 or so years. Itās still such a good headphone, I was surprised how well it really holds up.
After much listening to the Monolith m1570 I canāt really enjoy my elex anymore. I find them too cold. I might even end up selling my elex. Itās a shame because they are so good looking.
And with that I have to sayā¦ where do you draw the line. When do you say this is good enough I dont want to hear what else is out there because it may change how I feel about my current set. Im so scared to try something else. But the question is. Do you enjoy the 1570 more or just that its a different sound that your not use to. If you had the 1570 first and then tried the Elex. Do you think you would have found the 1570 to bloated and dark for a lack of better terms?
I think it just really comes down to the music you listen to and preference. You are always going to be sacrificing something to gain something else. The biggest weakness in the Elex/Clear is the thickness/weight in the timbre, imoā¦ So I can understand people feeling it sounds a little āthinā or ācoldā compared to a headphone that skews more warm with a thick low-end.
Personally, I think Focal nailed the best sound signature for the most variety of music and listening experiences in general. But I have the NDH 20 when Iām in the mood for a thicker sound signature.
Also another option is to do as Onaha with the Clear at leastā¦ if you play from an amp with a slightly higher output impedance, It should give the Clear a bit more body in the low-end.
Putting the clear on a full class a gives it some nice weight for sure. A good tube amp with a low output impedance is also very nice
Lol looks just like my clear pro except they donāt have the silver logo part
Haha, yeahā¦ I bet.
The white pads actually still have that slightly nicer material, though. These feel a bit more like the elex pads.
Overall I just enjoy the warmer sound they have while exhibiting a lot of the traits that I enjoyed about the elex and fixing something that I thought it was lacking in. As for where to draw the lineā¦ I donāt know how to do that. I have a tendency to try all the things and keep what I enjoy. It is a hobby and not my most expensive one so I just try to keep it āreasonableā.
Once you make it your main hobby, you can then make it less and less reasonable lol
Ibsaw you guys were talking about amp output impedance vs HP impedance. I think my shitty amp has an output impedance of 8ohm and my headphone is a 32ohm can. I read somewhere that the amp should be less than a quarter of the hp impedance. Any truth to that.
