šŸ”¶ Focal Elex

Lol, hopefully it doesnā€™t take too long :+1:

I sent him an email today and asked if he could take a few pics as he is building. Donā€™t know if heā€™s a picā€™s kind of guy. Hope so. He ordered the parts on Tuesday and he said it might be ready by the end of next week.

When the Liquid Platinum first came out I was quite smitten with it, but the price scared me off. Now a year later and I have been very disappointed with hybrids. Butā€¦I came very close to pulling the trigger on this amp anyway. I love the Cavelli sound and I know it wonā€™t be full on tubey and it does have TONS of power.

Imagine this:

  1. MAD tube amp
  2. SP200 with iFi itube2
  3. Liquid Platinum

Three very different takes on the tube sound. And then just call me Mr. Tube! :joy:

My Elex came back from warranty. Sounds great but the left pad looks wonky. Would this go away or should I say something? :0

Hmmm, let it sit for a day outside of the box and see if it goes away

Iā€™ll do that, hopefully it goes away. Worst case scenario Iā€™ll just shoot an email and hopefully get a pad replacement. I was pretty anxious about QC honestly so in a way itā€™s good that this is the biggest problem I have with it. I almost wanna say that it sounds better than my last pair but itā€™s probably just in my head lol

Iā€™m kind of wishing I had some little vacuum I could just pick up and use to suck up any debris on the pads. I have had dandruff for years now and since these are black it will make all those little white dots show up more.

A lint roller works well

I hear there are a few single pads floating around, Iā€™m sure they can spare one.

Try thisā€¦ Take some strong tape and tap the pads with the tape.

Headphones are out of stock on drop atm.

Today marked my 18th straight day using the Elexā€™sā€¦

I just take a strip of Scotch tape. It serves the same purpose and multiple purpose. Can use to tape something together and or remove lint, dust, dandruff, or whatever gets attracted to the earpads.

That works well too :+1:

I purchased the Topping DX7 Pro and waiting for it to arrive (a month away due to shipping from Hong Kong).

Is this a decent pairing with the Elex? I also own the Elegias and will possibly buy the HD 6XXs as well. I think I want the HD 6XXs because I want an a pair of audiophile-grade Sennheiser headphones. I own the Momentum IIā€™s but wireless. Iā€™m sure the DX7 Pro is overkill but I plan to continue build/upgrading home stereo setup. Any comments will be more than welcome.

Itā€™s personally not my favorite, it has kinda high output impedance and affects the focals frequency response a bit, but itā€™s not super bad or anything from my experience

Thanks. Iā€™ll keep that in mind and look into it a bit more.

Ok guys, so im struggeling to find a used Elex at a decent price. There are a lot of Elears going around. How close to the Elex will the elear with Elex/Clear pads be? That might be my easiest option

Itā€™s not going to be that close imo, but it should still be nice if you canā€™t get ahold of an elex

Thereā€™s a couple of them going for 600 on ebay, or maybe pre order the drop thatā€™ll ship in a month. Tbh I feel like you waited till the worst moment cause now that theyā€™re not directly selling them theyā€™re going for more than before. I would say donā€™t go for the elear and be patient for it.

I spent a year in Canada trying to buy them used via CAM. I probably saw three to four pairs in the year and they went fast.
The pricing was like $750.00 to $800.00 used and new is about $1,000.00.

I finally said F it and bought new. I do like the idea of warranty. These are SO far ahead of any entry level and a lot of used Mid-Fi, if you like the sound signature. May be the best headphone I ever bought.
