FOSTEX TH-X00 Ringing Issue

I got a pair of one of the Fostex TH variations. They sound great, but certain frequencies cause a metal resonance/pinging sound in the cups.

I’ve only found two comments on Reddit mentioning this issue for the Mahogany’s Reddit - Dive into anything

I don’t know if there’s a fix and I’d love for there to be one. I tightened the screws on the right cup assembly, and it seems the ringing has died down in that one, but no luck with the left. It really sucks because I love the headphones, but at remotely high volumes the ping is a killer.

My only guess is that the metal grill guarding the driver is loose, grazing it with a finger or object causes exactly the ringing you hear in use.

assuming you have removed the grills; has the ringing stopped?

I havent removed the grills, but I could try and see. They seem glued in a bit from what I remember, and I didnt want to mess with it too much

I experienced the same ringing with my last mahogany’s and today a pair of Emu Teaks. It’s just on the left side, and I think the mahogany was one side to. My first pair of fostex mahogany headphones I got had no such issues back in 2018. Ugh.
