I can be pretty damn sensitive to highs… gonna have to see if I can find any comparisons between the 598c and 770. I was looking at the 80 Ohm version though, mica origen should be able to push that. If not I can always throw down a few bucks on a 5v power source.
But yeah, at the moment I seem to be between 770 and 598C
That’s what I would look at. I would also throw the MSR7 in there, but it’s pretty bright, too.
Here would be my choices, if I were in your situation:
- ZMF Classic (used)
- m1060c (used)
- DT770
- MSR7
- 598 C
For example: here is a really good m1060c. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/wts-monoprice-m1060c-with-open-back-grills.908552/
He has open backs for it, so you can switch if you want. Price is $230, but you may be able to get him down a few bucks to near $200. It’s a GIGANTIC planar driver, and is a warm sounding headphone if you are into that.
I had the M560 and loved them but all the metal made them way too heavy for long listening sessions. I might have to look into the 1060c. I do prefer planar over all, though at the same time the lowered cost of being able to just snag a stock pair of cans is always preferred. I might just be lazy on that one though.
Well, the m1060c are definitely not light. They are pretty heavy, so you may want to stay away from that then.
Yeah, I love the M560 to death but I couldn’t do the weight. The HE400i saved me in that.
That’s why I sadly didn’t think of monolith as an option, as much as I dig their sound I can’t keep em on as long as I would like to.
Yeah, it’ usually an unfortunate side effect with a lot of planars. I have 600g LCD-X on the way. My neck is going to be super buff!
Best of luck in your hunt for new cans!
Thank you for all the suggestions!
And good luck with getting that neck swole!

FYI, I am selling my ZMF Classic. They are in great shape. Let me know if you are interested. I have no need for them after getting my LCD-X. Have them posted on headfi right now. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fs-zmf-classic.909453/

Think I’m pretty content with what I’ve got for the time being, thank you for the heads up though!
