For me it’s all about music. Zeos already said, you know you have good speakers when they “disappear” (good soundstage, sound apparently coming from everywhere). For me, that’s the same for headphones. Closing my eyes and basically hallucinating I’m at the bar listening to jazz because everything sounds so real and natural.
I’d say I’m the exact opposite of that audiophile. I want my equipment to “disappear” when I listen to music. Then look at my equipment and say “oof”.
