What are we damning? The frequency range on the sub not hitting as low as the speakers? Sucked into some new purchases?

awful subwoofer being worse than the tower speakers lol

yeah, but those towers are going to be really thin at 38hz. much thinner than the subwoofer

edit: it also doesnt say at what db down that 38hz is. and i havent heard of anyone claiming those towers dont need a sub. just saying

edit2: and polk isnt the only one. very common for entry level gear from the big makers that are being sold mostly at big box stores. take into account average buyer A, they are buying those speakers with that sub to have couch shaking movies. those speakers alone wont do that.

Yeah kind of to be expected from a $130 sub. But, if it’s sub or no sub and I have a budget of $150 then I would still consider it as a somewhat worthy entry level sub.

Yeah, for sure the towers are not going to give much usable energy at 38Hz. The sub will help that out. It will also reproduce below 40Hz just not as cleanly as it does in the rated frequency range.

Something like 40Hz @ -3db, this was mentioned by Polk.
so 38Hz ~-6db

Good for the price? maybe

But the extra bass, single speaker (sub) is IMO bit lol. For the boosted bass for sure if someone likes.

I wouldn’t read too much into the specs, it’s probably not a good subwoofer, but I’ll guarantee a 6. 5 inch driver in a pair of floor standers won’t match the bass response of even a bad 10 inch sub.

My floor standers were considerably more expensive than that, have a 10 inch bass driver, and a 10 inch passive radiator, and even if I bi-amp them with 500W to that driver, they won’t match the crappiest sub I have here in bass extension.

Plus you get the freedom to move your bass reproduction around the room. Very rarely is the best location(s) for your midrange and treble going to be the best for your bass too.

I tried to matcha subwoofer with my towers and finally gave up for a similar reason- my towers had a lower FR than many of the Sun’s I was going to have to spend more on the sub than I did on both towers just to get a sub that would reach low enough to matter.
