his compression example was very good i think people are getting confused a little i dont think he is saying that it sounds EXACTLY like plugging your nose while you sing but i think he is trying to get the idea across that you arent getting the full range of a particular sound. you are getting a more forward hollow example of how the voice would actually sound . it doesnt mean it will sound terrible but in comparison to ananda or something it will sound compressed as in lacking space between the Freq ranges . i would imagine it sounds like extra detail to most people and in a way it is more detail, but its also missing a a lot in the process of compression, also his freq response graph for these was VERY bad . is that the official GRAS measurement? didnt think it was that bad

agreed! that was solid!

My home setup makes them really fabulous headphones.

Your home setup would make any headphones fabulous.

But DMS works in Abyss. It explains his opinion.
He made headphone score and he gave HD6xx 16 and SPH9600 only 3 for detail. I have both and 3 for detail for SPH9600 is non fair and stupid. Phillips SPH9600 is obviusly not worse in detail then Senn HD6xx. So I don’t trust DMS.

Why is that?

The term “influencer” is what you are looking for.

Take a look at all those videos by all those people on Youtube. Do you honestly believe a fancy camera, lights, a studio space and in some cases an editor are paid for by a thousand per month on patreon?

Ad revenue is way down, yet most companies are spending the same for ads as they ever have. Companies are not planting trees!

Regardless of what the critiques are from any reviewer, like DMS, at the end of the day none of the technicalities matter as much as how the headphones sound to YOU.

I don’t care if you enjoy listening to wet farts coming out of your drivers and all the critics tell you it’s just wet farts. If you find joy in it, then go ahead and enjoy it. Zeos enjoys compressed farts. And you know what, I do too :stuck_out_tongue:

To me, my money was well spent. The GL2000’s bring me joy above other gear I’ve tried around that price range. Justifying this stuff with descriptions of standard technical performance expectations is only useful as a reference point in a review or conversation. It doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it and be happy with it.

Many people enjoy these headphones. Many don’t. I don’t really care to judge anyone on why they do or don’t enjoy these.

I have a feeling DMS is just picking on a new company. Head them off at the trail before their roots can take hold. Got to protect the established in the industry. The GL2000 easily sounded much better than my LCD2. I’ll bet he wouldn’t dare to say a LCD2 is worth about $200. BTW the 6XX sounds about $21, relative to a $20 KCS75. OK, throw in $30 more for better construction of the 6XX, $51. LOL.

I think his positions on the vocal timbre and the compression items are fairly different items altogether.

Well you’d have to throw in crinnacle and resolve too. Some people just like different things. If you’re happy with them, just be happy. Try more headphones too.

sounds great and the depth seems almost endless. a lot of music in that genre is totally out of my wheelhouse but i love the way they force you to listen differently.

i dont think so. i think he has a higher standard than someone like Z does. i dont mean that insulting but Z reviews iems and a lot of products literally same day. his new 800$ IEM video he says " so i sat down today not knowing what to expect and you should buy them and empty your wallets this company is going to be happy with this video" i mean seriously? so no i dont think his opinion is worth literally anything other than for fun and it is fun. but DMS crinical and the rest are better for actual opinions. i dont want to say Z doesnt care but he is doing a good job pretending that he doesnt.

I wish Steve Gutenberg would review these. I respect his view point.

Yes, I’d like too, he’s a deaf audiosnob, so it’ll be fun to watch.

Yeah. Some music really take advantage of good headphones

The only thing I don’t get with that compression talk, is how it’s done physically? I understand how compressor works from mathematics standpoint. But doing compression physically requires circuitry to compute all that stuff. Or maybe I just know nothing

Guestimate:
Magnetic field strength decrease with the inverse square of distance. So in case of a planar, the further the membrane moves away from the magnets, the more power the amplifier needs to put in to move it.

With low amplitude signals, the membrane stays closer to the magnets making it move more.
High amplitude signals makes it move away and “loose strength” so to speak.
