I played with the mids on mine so I can actually kind of answer this. The sense of space does decrease when you bring them up, that âfar awayâ feeling from the vocals does partly come from the fact that theyâre being sucked out of the mix with the stock tuning. They still sound âbigâ to me, just not distant, which I find preferable anyway, vocals were so weak before I toyed with them.
Totally agree. Gl2k is actually Gold Planarâs solution for the effect of inside-the-head localization that most planar headphones have. I perfer the vocal that at the right distance.
Iâm replying because you tagged me.
Physical âcompessionâ being put on the replay via the transducers is less likely than it being related to source file or power and even DAC.
Files are obvious as they are by design (lossy type), actually removing info above and below certail ranges and thus decreasing the dynamic range. That is litteral physical compression by itâs definition
Headphone tuning can impact your ability to discerne certain dynamic ranges, for example, Emphasized bass can impact your ears ability to percieve the driver actually playing back of a portion of the mids. It is actually doing the mids but the bass is overwhelminf your ears/brain ability to focus.
SoâŠit is shit mids. Not actuallyâŠbut actually.
Think of a Hybrid earphone with dedicated specific drivers x-overed specifically tasked with mid freq range replay âŠand a over emphasised bass range that makes the mids sound like shit. That driver is doing itâs one job but your ears and shit tuningâŠmeans that mid driver is absent and might as well not even be there.
Are the GL2K inflicting a Dynamic range limitation and essentially compressing the actual range?
Absofuckinglutely not.
Was DMS using that as an example of what he was hearing? Sure. Neat trick and useful info.
Not what is actually happening though.
My obsessive focus on Cymbals which have a tendency to reach out on the horizontal scale
(frequency graph) and another, a dynamic range plot would bear that out.
Can a deviation in the treble which is measured on and amplitude scale (frequency graph) impact that percieved range? Of course. Same as a mid driver being canceled by an overbearing low freq driver.
Perception is reality.
Measurements of disputing interpretations are done by 3rd parties. Like the Abyss Diana saga which never found an uninvested 3rd party. Nobody you tagged has not already chimed in.
Trust your ears.
Not me
Not DMS
Not Zeos
Not 20 absolute strangers saying the exact same thing which may be a huge wtf since on any given thing you may be the other dudeâŠ#21.
Trust your ears.
Nobody knows whatâs inside of a sausage. Thatâs why itâs called âbag of mysteryâ.
Yes, thatâs the problem, you see. We have ears, and something between them too. So, when the moment of truth comes, we can clearly hear the little discrepancies between the actual sound, and what the reviewers depict. In the case of GL2000 it goes between hosanna to crucify them, and itâs really entertaining to watch.
Btw, there is nothing to explain in the case of the so called âcompressionâ, itâs quite clear:
I really donât think the dynamics and imaging are bad.
I wish I could answer you. I can tell you that mid-high dip is what is preventing me to be satisfied with them. To be fair its prominence is what really bums me out, you canât really deny itâs there. And it makes high frequencies sound hollow. If it wasnât for that I would be quite happy overall. I havenât heard as many headphones to position them properly on the price range.
If that would affect soundstage I believe to be more related to how they are going to do that. If they can keep everything else the same I would be happy with them. Right now itâs a meh and a mumble.
DMS lost me on separation and imaging. They are excellent, and the slightest modding makes it even better.
I got the XLR cable today. The XLR cable has a nice fabric feel around the wiring, while the stock cable is plastic covered. A small but nice touch/difference.
Very little if any difference using the XLR cable and the 4.4 cable with an XLR adapter.
Couldnât find the mods on youtube where are they hidden. If itâs in this thread Id rather not look through 1690 posts any help thanks.
What sort of sounds is in the mid-high freq? Is it vocals or instruments? Because I listen to quite a lot of vocal heavy music and sometimes jazz and electronic and classical
This shows the disassembly, the mod itâs self is the removal of either or both the two paper/cloth covers and or the dust screen
I run mine on a big f-ing tube amp using 4 2A3, 4 6c45 drivers and a really nice 274B rectifier. The amp is fully balanced topology.
Iâm actually have the GL2000 plugged in on high gain and going through low and high impedance. Iâm not sure the output power is at 60 ohms should be enough. The only power spec is 10 watts at 32 ohms.
Iâll try it first how to take them apart video
So, since the reception of the Gl2000 is controverse, would it be a good idea to get a dt 1990 pro (with amiron foam disc to tame the treble) instead?
Both are open, detailed, with big soundstage, good imaging + the dt 1990 is cheaper
The dt 1990 pro has better build quility and is known in the community for some years now.
Right in the center of the vocal range. You can hear it in Zeos demo. It feels like hollowing out voices. You hear the lower part of the vocal range and then the sound jumps straights to the higher frequencies. I believe it is around 4-5Khz. If you can make up with that then I would say they are really good in everything else to me.
If you watch the headphone show video equing them I believe Resolve addresses it.
Some people have problems with the sibilance of the dt1990 pro. I think Ananda might be more all rounded
Oh I see. Well it seems they are not a perfect all rounder, but they can do other things very well. I think I will still consider them for my next headphone. If I canât stand it, I will just return them.
Isnât Dt1990 like asking to get your ears pierced with sibilance lol. GL2000 is like the opposite headphone, more smooth and relaxed. If anything the Amiron home seems like a safer bet if you go with beyer
Please after you try it try to convey how massively different it sounds because I think people are having a hard time believing a miracle can happen from removing a couple pieces of paper and a piece of basically thin felt lol. But nonetheless, a miracle happens.
