For better access during heavy demand, as a backup if the main site goes down, etc, all the main reasons you would use a cdn I would assume
So presumably InnerFidelityâs owner, AVTech Media, paid CDN for this service and presumably it will lapse when the current term expires?
Prob yes, I would assume they wouldnât keep it up if they donât have plans to keep up the regular site. But who knows they could be revamping the main site and then going live again at a later date, but idk
There is a post on the Stereophile forum that refers to an email exchange with the owner. The recap doesnât definitively rule out a resurrection, but comes pretty close to doing so.
Iâd think one would leave the site up and add a notice to a coming re-launch, if that was intended, to retain any existing readership. The sudden and unexplained re-direct is a pretty guillotine sort of thing.
innerfidelity knew that not everyone was able to pay for thousands of dollars of headphones and gave good recommendations for the general person as well as the audiophile
stereophile is almost 90% expensive shit
Man, this is definitely a minefield, but i enjoy the following in no order:
Thomas & Stereo
Zeos
Darko
Andrew Robinson
Zero Fidelity
None are perfect, but each has had things i have learned from them over the years. Always looking for new ppl to check out, great thread
The Last few reviews from Andrew Robinson are like⌠weirdly antagonistic against hifi stuff
Soundbars that are âbetterâ than home theater
promoting bluetooth turntables
etc etc
I immediately stopped watching John Darko when his first video I watched had horrible jittering in the treble in the sound of his videos. Apparently this guy couldnât hear it until a viewer mentioned it to him and so had screeching in the treble range in ALL his videos for a good 2 years. How on earth are you going to expect a guy who canât even hear how bad the audio quality in his reviews of audio gear (like wtf irony) to even make any worthwhile comments?
I stopped watching him about a month ago. Something about his reviews seemed too âtech-reviewerâ for me and he wasnât really reviewing anything I was in the market for.
He seems to have leaned hard into the anti audiophile thing. Where now its like⌠purely commercial items that are being reviewed. So like⌠if I wanted that, Iâd just watch like Linus tech tips or something
The other thing thatâs been annoying me as hifi stores are dying and we are slowly moving online for our purchases for the most part. Audio companies are starting to turn into what tech/film equipment companies are doing. Which is basically coordinate a set of reviews to come and inundate reviewers with a review for a single item all at the same time. (I swear to god if I see another review for a zihyun crane gimbal from a film tech reviewer that is just them reading off the spec sheets and acting like its a reviewerâŚ)
Paul McGowan (head of PS Audio) dropped a little bombshell in his latest daiy episode:
Starting at around 4 minutes he first relates that using a particular (AudioQuest) interconnect makes a âbigâ audible difference. Then he riffs on the fact that there is a contingent who dis his stance that cables can make an audible difference. Then he hits on Amir, implying heâs not fully skilled at using his Precision measurement rig and so in self-defence his company is considering publishing their own Precision measurements of their own gear but done âcorrectlyâ.
So grab yourself a bowl of popcorn and watch the fun begin. (Hope this is the right thread for thisâŚ)
Hmmm letâs see what starts to happen, could get very interesting (regarding the amir stuff lol)
Schiit already started doing this after the Yggdrasil disaster.
I just hope ps audio doesnât start to cater their stuff asr crowd like schiit has been doing now lol
I do think unfortunately, there will be more impact on the mid/high end gear from ASR as Topping and others push into higher price points.
Welp, glad I got most things I like so far, but that might end up being pretty unfortunate for those going into high end in the future lol
this guy over hereâŚ
PS Audio is a mainly discrete components shop. Does this have a negative effect on the things Amir measures? I donât see them changing to integrated any time soon. In fact, in a recent video Paul talked about integrateds not being cost-effective for them, on top of any SQ issues. Wouldnât a lot of other small shops like PS Audio be also be on the discrete components trip?
