Does anyone really belive that Paul has no idea who Denafrips is? This is the cheezy side of high end audio IMO.
First disclaimer: I like Paulās videos.
howeverā¦
Sometimes Paul makes digs at other companies (the exception being if his friends work there), seemingly in the name of self promotion and they always stand out as weird.
Like one video he just randomly shit on Bryston.
Second Disclaimer: Am Canadian and slightly defensive of what few brands we have.
But honestlyā¦ I kiiind of can see Paul being unaware of Denafrips. Dude wrote in a question about doing hybrid home theatre two channel (because like a lot of people probably has to contend with space and budget and cant just build two separate systems, like paul and his home theatre and his listen room) and he went on a 3 minute tyrade about how people are too addicted to screens and people need to focus on television less. Lots of āslightly out of touchā energy in that video
Honestly a ton of modern industry are somewhat unaware of sub 1k to 600 buck dacs like the bf2, ares ii, soekris, etc, they only know the really high and and older established dac brands, or more mainstream budget dacs like bluesound streamers or an aq dragonfly (which is why you see dealers suggesting you either go super big or go home with dacs, mainly since they donāt know about whats in that just below 1k price range)
The comments were pretty funny though. Iām sure he knows Denafrips now. lol
I think he also had a pair of Buchardtās in his hallway in a video and said something along the lines of āthese measly bookshelves, whatever they areā. Donāt remember his exact words, but the comments blew up.
Denafrips be like who the fuck is Paul? LOL.
Iāve seen some of his videos in the past and was quickly turned off from his dismissive behavior and digs towards other products, people, companies and sometimes facts.
Due to his general attitude as I perceive it in his videos I wonāt buy any products from PS Audio.
Talking about the comment section reminds me of John Darko. Since when does he disable his comment section? Was it since people pointing out the jittery audio in his videos? I donāt think he ever address anything about this issue, and also itās quite weird making a video but not wanting anyoneās opinion. It almost seems like his videos are just advertisements at this point.
I THINKā¦ According to him, it was disabled due to a rather high surge in xenophobic/racist comments wrt chinese gear in the wake of his denafrips reviews
Yep, according to him it was the bad behaviour in the comments (I remember ugly stuff every now and then if Jana was involved in a video) and that he doesnāt have the time or manpower to moderate
Ah, thank you for the link. I personally think that was not the best solution. Channels like The Next Best Thing Studio, Thomas & Stereo and Zero Fidelity also had racist comments in the past, but they managed to turn it around. For example, Jay from The Next Best Thing Studio always inform or educate people on what they thought as bad, and thus his community has started to change. It feels to me that John Darko is taking the easy solution, but at the end of the day itās his channel and he can do anything as he please.
Darko, for all his pro digital music, pro streaming stuff has a touch of the āold man, print writer energyā feel to him, which Sean, Jay, Thomas, and Taron (british audiophile, good stuff recommend him) donāt have who seem more active in their communities, which is probably why they are growing more rapidly than he is
I agree however that he could hire moderators if he wanted to deal with comment sections
I actually enjoyed her channel way more than anything Darko was doing. Seems like her own content didnāt take off which was a shame. I enjoyed that kind of content much more than the veiled advertisements we get from so many sources nowadays.
I agree if for anything it was an interesting exploration of peoples unique audio spaces with extremely high production value
My problem is most youtubers overall have kind of terrible production values and if they do have decent production values theyāre copypaste from an influencer guide book on how to get max engagement (jay and Valour for example)
Also if you go to her Aries Cerat Video sheās still getting insults hurled at her over a year after it was published. There is a problem with toxicity in Youtube and I can see some folks not wanting anything to do with it.
Worth a watch, something weāve beat to death here in some threads. lol
The set of jingling keys example is a great real world example. Iāve heard clapping used as an example as well. Also snapping a seamstress scissors, things along those lines that are hard to get right.
Yes, good combination of the old-guard audiophile combined with independent common-sense and value priorities. Iāve enjoyed his videos and style recently, quite a bit.
Gotta love Steve for reviewing some affordable speakers lately. Seems like he is the only one still reviewing stuff thatās not headphones or headphone related gear.
Not looking to buy anything, Iām just tired of hearing about headphones and IEMs all the time.
Recently I was in a situation where I couldnāt get around buying a TWS set - even though Iām all for wired - and I had a pretty tough time finding a good TWS reviewer because theyāre all basically gaming/PC guys who get impressed when they find out they can use them for something other than gaming
Anyway, found this guy. I like his reviews. Sure, heās got some where heās obviously promoting a brand, but even then heās a pretty good reviewer
Now this is not technically the right thread for this since Paul does what Iām increasingly regarding as infomercials not reviews on YT, but donāt want to start a new thread for one little thing.
In this vid, Paul answerās a question regarding thin gauge wire being used inside a loudspeaker:
Certainly, itās a crying shame those poor little electrons have to endure sub-standard transportation while going about their duties. But, not being electrically competent, I wonder if there is any validity to upping the wire gauge in this context?
