Good audio reviewers and ones to stay far far away from

It probably depends, a loud speaker crossover is going to have perhaps 20V running through it, if the wire has any significant portion of the resistance or inductance it’s probably better to use a larger gauge. There is a good argument for getting iron core inductors out of a crossover, but that’s because of the magnetic properties, rather than the electrical ones, and people seem to largely agree there are quality levels in cpacitors.

It’s interesting to watch the GR Research videos where he breaks down crossovers in commercial speakers, there are surprisingly poor quality components in some relatively expensive speakers, I remember at least one case where the metal strip between the two speaker binding posts was measured with a resistance over 1 Ohm, god knows what they made that out of.

There was a debate in the late 80’s on wire gauge and single stranded vs mullti-stranded speaker cables that pretty much went away. Wires have 3 measurable properties resistance, capacitance and impedance and they affect things, this can be so obvious as to make amps fail at extremes of what people use for speaker cable, so my guess is even relatively small changes have some impact.

I didn’t know what a sand cast resistor was, but thanks to GR Research, now I know I hate them. lol

I’m interested in learning more of the technicals behind tube amps and the associate technology types (push/pull, S.E.T, etc…) as well as the different types of tubes ( rectifiers, power, etc…).

Any recommended channels on these topics or is it too specific?

My favorite new channel of the last month is CheapAudioMan.

This is more a pun/joke content but even his normal reviews get me to giggle. I really like that they don’t take themselves to seriously and add a bit of joy into their content.

Thanks! That’s just the kind of objective info I was looking for and feel would have been appropriate in the Ask Paul vid, as well.

Dude makes me chuckle almost as much as zeos.

I’m more headphone vs speaker alignment, but I watch a lot more videos by New Record Day than I have any reason to. Ron seems like a likeable guy, so it’s cool to be able to confirm he has a sense of humor

Couldn’t help but share this one:

Found it a beautiful read, journalistic approach is on point, and so is expression. What more can you ask from an audiophile article?

What do you think of Andrew Robinson’s reviews on YT?

:-1:

Visually well made videos.

I’ll be civil and leave it at that lol.

With all the discussion over at gl2000 and the differing opinions on that pair of headphones, I thought i’d drop my 2 cents on Z.

I followed Z many years ago because he used to have a lot of great suggestions for the best of the cheap shit. I only currently really started to watch more of his videos and livestreams so from what I could ascertain from watching his content, he is really more about hyping a product because he is so hyped about it himself from just using it. The product made him feel a way about it and he wants you to feel that way as well if your going to buy it, hence where the hype steps into the scene.

If he sells us hype that doesn’t pan out, it’ll hurt him in the long run which would effect his livelihood. I would hope these suggestions Zeo’s throws out to us are based on a level of understanding that he needs to be accurate enough with what he says so as to not miss the mark. Not everyone can be 100% right when it comes to someone else’s sound preferences. Either way, always fun to compare actual listening experience with reviewer’s opinions.

I found myself greatly enjoying Jerry Del Colliano’s articles on audiophilereview.com.

You can google this guy, you can find him on Wikipedia too.

I have to say that I find his articles very entertaining, it’s an enjoyable read!

currawong almost has me convinced to drop $$$ on susvaras. His reviews are slow but more about the actual device and sound, not colored by the equipment making it work.

With another reviewer, the constant switching between devices, plug this in, try that now on this, btw promo the cables, pet the cat, now look at everything i got (Love z man vids, least has some honesty and will call a pos a pos ) but Damn its a vitamix blender churning out an optimal sound smoothie. All i got (want) is an old school twist it over the glass juicer to taste the pure juice.

I have been using the advice and return policies from trusted audio shops. Brick n mortar keeps people employed. Amazon has 0 human interface. Only people they got pick up boxes that fall off the robots and fix conveyer belts when they break. (Maybe the new drone delivery will have a LED smiley face on it).

Yeah, brick and mortar needs to sell product, but having a good r/e program, trade in program and solid unbias advice seem to allow their customers to get dialed in on products best for them. TMR audio def got me hooked up

Sorry for the rant… (did I just call Zeos an overpriced blender!?! sorry z hahah… least you dont do reviews from your bedroom :joy:)

The comment section would definitely be so bad. I wonder if he will disable it like other youtubers. I’ll give him 3 months until he disables it.
