akg k361 are 77€. probably the best price/performance
i recently bought a pair of superlux hd668b for 38€. I wouldn’t say they’re killer headphones but if you want to try a semi-open that’s a possible start. I use them with EQ to tone dowwn the peaky treble and bring the bass up a little bit. with eq it makes for a nice neutral headphone.
If you want more bass and decent sound I would look towards iems though
I was also gonna say K361 or SHP9600. Beyers kinda need an amp so, it’s less of a budget option.
Oh yeah, if IEMs are an option, they will probably give you better performance for the money.
AKG K361 will be better than SHP’s because they have more bass. OP likes electronica, which features plenty of bass.
Sure, the detail of the SHP’s will be nice with the multiple tracks in many electronic pieces. But those pieces will lack their natural thump on the SHP’s. But the K361’s are $100 new, so he will need to find an extra $15.
Sony MDR-7506 are time-tested and pretty neutral for $100. But that damn 900-pound coiled cord is a hindrance.
If $85 is the true financial ceiling, then SHP’s probably are the best solution.
Yes. IEMs are a much better value proposition than over-ear cans at $100 and less.
Some of the Chi-fi IEMs are outstanding. I just got Moondrop Starfields for $110 that punch FAR above their weight.
