šŸ”¶ Grado GW100

AHAHAHA! I thought we were talking software revisions, not HW. I saw 4.2 and 5.0 and didn’t think BT standards, I was thinking revision of the DSP on the headphones. LoL!

I usually find Zeos to be a fairly reliable and honest source so when he pays something kudos like he has with these headphones then I think I need to go back and listen to them again.

I will have to compare the sound quality with my SR80e playing out my BTR5 as a reference because they really kick butt.

I know its not a like-for-like comparison but I have found playing most of my headphones out of the BTR5 pretty unbeatable at this point and being Grado"s they will be the nearest match I have.

I’ve tried various different Bluetooth headphones including the Sony WH1000XM3s, B&W PXs, PX5s and PX7S and found the sound on them all underwhelming. Maybe my expectations are set a little bit high at the moment in terms of the audio output quality on Bluetooth headphones. Perhaps i need to wait for a game changer, not sure if the GW100s are ā€œitā€ but I’ll give them another go.

I just bought them this will be my first grado headphone I hope I’ll like them

what made you choose them over the others?

I own the BT5.0/USB-C/40hrs battery version of the GW100 since a few weeks and I partly agree with Zeos that these sound surprisingly good (specifically in the low end) for a wireless headphone (also the BT-range is fantastic) and that they are really bad in wired mode. I have no experience with Grado headphones so I can not compare to Grados but I do prefer them in wireless mode over my Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless headphones. However that preference is also due to the convenience of finally having an open-back BT headphone for use at home (I want/have to be aware of my surroundings/family). The sound quality is however not out-of-this-world as one might think from the review. They were relatively cheap at amazon UK (about 150 GBP) and in that price range they are really ahead of the competition.

Do you know the name of the seller on Amazon UK you bought them from? I’ve contacted a few and they have the original Bluetooth 4.2 version

Well most people use tube amps for grados and I don’t have one plus don’t have to worry about an amp just straight off my phone

If I really like them might upgrade to the hemps

The seller was ā€žJoe-Audioā€œ. Bought on amazon UK with delivery to Germany. But it is possible that they deliver to continental Europe from a different warehouse with different stock…

Hello! After watching Z’s reviews and looking through posts, I see comments on sound stage and detail but nothing on imaging. Does anyone have a take on the imaging?

If it’s anything like the SR80e then the imaging should be pretty good. I don’t know if I would use them for super competitive gaming but it’s should be plenty satisfactory for music.

Thanks A_COC0NUT. Mostly for movie watching and around the house stuff. Cooking and following youtube recipies. The open back is nice because if someone needs me i can hear what’s going on in the house. IMO perfect for family days where everyone is around doing different things. Hopefully the imaging and sound is good for movie watching. Or at least I’m hoping.

I’ve been using my SR80e with geekria pads for movies and TV recently and they are great for that. The GW100 should be a great choice.

@A_COC0NUT The Geekria pads just open those headphones up to excellant all rounders in my opinion while preserving enough of the ā€œGrado soundā€ to ensure you know you’re still wearing Grados. Best pad investment I’ve ever made. The Earzonk aren’t terrible and it’s so easy to swap pads I use them from time to time but the Geekria pads are where it’s at.

I wonder if the geekria pads might be good for the GW100. They are pretty stretchy so I think they will fit and they might even make wired sound better. Have you tried them on you GW100 by chance?

@A_COC0NUT The GW100 is a bigger pad with different design. I don’t think the Geekria pads will fit. I can try here in a few and report back. The only pads I know of for replacements right now are the stock ones.

@A_COC0NUT So the pads are different. See below.

SR80e

That is quite a lot bigger. Oh well. At least they sound good in wireless mode.
