šŸ”¶ Grado GW100

Did you have to modify the cups to fit the buttons or does Shipibo come with them already cut out?

Yes, the left side cup had to be milled out to an extreme degree, as well as the circuit board trimmed down as far as possible. To anyone else wanting to try this I strongly recommend measuring the pcb first and getting larger custom cups (which might in turn cause the other hardware to need resizing), and holes for the buttons precut.

Can someone please provide a link to the $5 Ebay G cushions?

The current ones are uncomfortable and make my ears ā€˜tingle’.

They just bumped up the price to $8, still a good deal. Be aware they will probably take a month to reach you. There might be some amazon G pads with faster shipping options.

I received the TTVJ Deluxe flat pads yesterday. They do sound good. They have solid bass and a very direct, punchy sound. Being the smallest, they make the phones more portable but are probably the least comfortable of the pads I’ve tried. Given the $50 price, I cant recommend them for the GW100s.

I also received some ebay L pads, and they are the worst of the three. They have a distinctively light sound. Great clarity and the most transparent mids and treble, but bass is noticeably reduced for some reason, too much for my liking.

The ebay G pads are far and away the best, to my ear. Much more articulate and atmospheric. I guess there is a bit of a mid-scoop effect going on. They sound a bit hollower than the others, but not in a bad way. They take these headphones from good to incredible.

Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, they don’t ship to Canada.

These look similar…

Replacement Ear Pads Grado Headphone G Cushion GS1000i GS1000e PS1000 PS1000e | eBay

I’ve bought and used several cheap chinese G pads as well as begrudginly paid for real ones as well and the real ones always feel and wear way better than the chinese ones.

Would be nice to see someone like Yaxi try a G pad replacement.

really nice

These aren’t for me if just because I don’t use Bluetooth

@OWLY yeah those look exactly the same

@Grimspoon I’ve just seen so many people saying the real G pads kill the low frequency on the less pricey Grados, much like I’m finding the ebay L pads do with the GW100s. I dont want to pay $50 for real G pads and then find out they dont even sound as good as these…

Maybe y’all could try these. I find both these pads make the SR80e sound great and you could probably stretch them on to the GW100.

These tame the highs and add bass

Yeah the Geekria’s were made for the 80’s, I love them, which reminds me I need to get a pair for the 60’s

I just got these and so far loving them - they are my new favorite bluetooth cans, I really like how they look, Grado retro style but without the cable, rich and bassy, lightweight and open backed… Great for working at home when I want to be mobile around the house and not tied to my desk and dont need sound isolation

Any good pad options for the GW100?

going with the bigger pads…the G and K, I think, from the larger headphones is a popular pad mod.

also, due to how close it comes to Robotech…does your name have any relation to that anime?

Yeah its kindof combination of that and architecture lol

Any have pad recommendations for the GW100?

Picked these pads up from beautifulaudio - I got them for my hemps and really liked them so thought to try the ones for GW100. They sound great, I feel they add more clarity vs the original foam, look pretty nice, open them up: Grado Small: Hybrid (Leather + Merino) Black — Beautiful Audio

how the pads change the sound?

I feel its not too drastic a change, overall similar sound signature, you still have good bass and dynamics remain, if you like the way the current gw100 sound is… There is less clamp force and a bit more clear, stage is more open - the highs feel a bit smoother to my ears. Resolution is still decent its still bluetooth but my favorite bluetooth headphones, I have felt that even with the stock foam the gw100 sounds great and dynamic if a tiny bit more muffled compared to the Hemps and I feel the treble is smoother to my ears with these hybrid pads… In terms of comfort, I find these pads more comfortable but I guess depends on the person - the original gw100 foam is fine but I found it gets a bit hot over time being pressed right onto the ears (similar to a koss portapro), whereas with these pads dont get hot and I can wear then for long time without any fatigue
