šŸ”¶ Grado Ltd Edition Hemp

I’ll be able to test that considering I have the liquid platinum and I just bought the grado hemps. Should be here by the end of the week

I would avoid THX since it doesn’t have the best reputation around these parts. Many people hear feel THX has harsh and brittle treble and it less detailed, despite it’s good measurements.

I use the Asgard 3 which is class AB, meaning it is class A untill a certain threshold where another cercuit kick in to get more power (I may not have that totally accurate). So I would say get an Asgard 3. It’s my favorite way to listen to the Hemps. It’s makes the Hemps thick, lush mids even more textured and dynamic. The Asgard 3 Hemps combo makes me make lewd noises when I listen to Black Sabbath.

I want that amp. Does it pair as well with the Hemp’s as I hope?

Mine sound great out of my SP200- better than my Zen, and cheap tube hybrids, but I believe there are probably better pairings out there, I just don’t know what they are.

So yes and no. They do sound good but I actuall prefer them out of my old portable rig. I chalk it up to the old fiio amp being single ended natively rather than using the single ended output of the balanced singxer. The lower midrange is a little funky on the singxer but spot on with the fiio combo. I’ll either have to get a good desktop single ended amp for them or have them rewired balanced. And the stock cable is crap ro deal with.

Good stuff! Hope you enjoy your time with them.

Easily my favorite headphone right now. I took a clamp and hung them upside down by the plug and used a heat gun on low to relax the cable a bit. After it cooled down the crazy bends and turns it takes fresh out da box were completly gone. Much better.

Any references or recommendations for someone who can do a detachable cable mod for these??? My pair is on the way but I got the Hemps used & single ended. Can’t wait =)

The only person/company I know of that does that is Drew over at Moon Audio. But I am sure there are many others.

some reputable Grado modders like https://wabisabiheadphones.wordpress.com/ may be able to help

I believe Shipibo does detachable cable mods, but he is in Europe.

It’s also worth noting that hemp wood it a composite wood, meaning it could kind of crumble if you try to cut or drill it.

I would recommend doing the ā€œpig tailā€ detachable cable by cutting the stock cable about 1-2in from the cups and attaching 3.5mm female connectors to the remaining bit of wire.

Right on, i just sent my hemps to a buddy to mod them, since most cables have the requirements for a balance cable to my understanding he will modify the stock cable and make it balanced. I have no problems with the stock cable to be honest in terms of being heavy etc but all my devices perform waaaay better balanced so hes doing me a favor and terminating it to 4.4.

Also i just had a few days with these before sending them to be modded balanced, but so far they sounded quite promising. Forgot to put my thoughts here, it’s fairly balanced and fun so far with indeed great bass. Gritty but good mids. A sound signature that i’ve never experienced for sure, pretty interesting so far. Will be happy to listen to them more once they are back and i can play them on my gear more properly.

I agree that they sound like nothing else. That alone makes them fun.

Wow, Grado just updated their entire Prestige series lineup.

All of Grado’s less expensive headphones now appear to have the driver from the Hemp (38 ohms rather than 32 in the rest of the line), they added padding to the headband, and the cables are now a mesh threading instead of the rubber.

Here’s Grado’s official store.

This new ā€˜x’ series seems like a pretty nice upgrade over the ā€˜e’ series. It doesn’t cover every item on people’s wishlists (ie. the cables still aren’t detachable), but a Hemp driver, a better headband, and a better cable - is pretty nice.

They run from the $99 SR60x to the $295 SR325x.

They’ll probably upgrade the more expensive headphones in the coming months.

Take my money grado, when you make an rs2x

On the gradolabs website, it says the drivers are still 32 ohms

The have always been a bit inconsistent with the technical specs from the gradolabs website to 4ourears.

I have a feeling that the actual announcement if the ā€œxā€ series was a rad rushed since a German website posted an article about it a few days ago before the official announcement. If you look closely you can see some of the pictures are the same as the old ones but with the ā€œeā€ photoshoped to an ā€œxā€. They probably just haven’t had the time to properly update and check all the specs on the gradolabs website.

Thanks. As a hemp owner, do you feel like the Hemp’s distinct sound mainly comes from the pads, the new drivers or the hemp material?

I’m going to say the new drivers most of all, but the pads have a great influence on the tuning.

I’ll be able to give you a better answer in a few days after I’ve compared the Hemps to the GH-2 that I recently got (with both F-cush and L-cush pads on both).

I don’t think the wood is as important with Grados as it is with something like the Fostex family of headphones. It still make some difference, but not so much that I’d credit it solely for the Hemp’s sound.
