Your neck game must be impeccable. The Hemps are so light and I never had a comfort issue with them once I switched to different pads when I owned them.
Just found this group. Had hemps for about 8 months. 325e for a couple of years, 80s for about 15 years. Gotta love the 2k hump and bass roll off, though the F pads and the new 44mm drivers tame that a lot, but I’m an ageing boomer so treble lift is welcome. Paired with JDS Element 2, the hemps are capable of some skull crushing snare rolls and yet some delicate finger vibrato, big fan.
Just been researching Harman curves, and just got some Yamahas that are supposedly very close, and have to say very impressed, and have some theories about why the Grado signature sound profile is so marmite, but that’s for another day.
Anyone tried the Dekoni pads Zeos has on these? I see people saying they prefer the stock pads more than the G cush because they find the highs to get too harsh. It depends on what your favourite cans are, what music you listen too, and how many cans you have, but there’s a workaround if you want to keep the benefits of the G cush without the harsh highs, and that’s buy an iFi DAC. I had the Ares II, and sold it, because it made the highs too harsh. The sound difference between an iFi Zen and Ares II wasn’t so big it was now worth putting up with the harsh highs and I way prefer the comfort and sound stage of the Gs. It seems the new reference series Grado cans have hemp integrated so I’m super excited to see reviews come out on those, and if they just take the sound of the Hemps and make it better somehow, those will be end game cans for sure.
Yea I picked up one of those. I am going to try it out with the Grado Hemp and see how it goes. Plus have a few other headphones (DT 880, MMX 300, Kennerton GH50, HE6se V2) as well I can test with. I am sure it will be comfy, but I will have to see if there is a sound improvement on any of them. I can share what I think about them with the Hemps when they arrive and I have had some time with them.
Just got the pads in today. Comfort is a 10. Ears will get a little warm. Adds a slight bit more warmth to the sound. I probably would stick with the perforated pads that I have here. I would think the solid Lambskin will be way too dark.
Also do note that the ring will not work with Beyerdynamic pads. The lip is not long enough to attach them. But the XL Brainwaz pads will sorta work.
Bump to ask for more impressions of the Shipibo pads. Do they cut sound stage a lot compared to the G? Because I don’t want to lose too much of the sound stage or airiness of the Gs
Yea I meant to say Dekoni Beyerdynamic pads will not work with the ZMF adapter.
Oh, DEKONI pads! Maybe ZMF pads are different size?
Yea i believe some of the ZMF pads could work, but some ZMF pads are larger than others. So maybe not all of them.
could be. If I’ll get the ZMF pads I will post here how it goes.
I gave been avoiding the Hemps for almost two years, but broke down last weekend. Should have them by Monday. Curious to test against my GH2’s.
where did you buy them from?
I got a great deal on a used set. I bought on CAM (Canuck Audio Mart).
I’ve sold mine and now want to buy Hemps again, the third time, lol.
Liking these hybrid pads from beautifulaudio.biz… Trying to drum up enough guts to do the removable cable mod next, but loving the sound so much, a bit nervous about cutting the cables…
That foam does flatten down though. Mine are two and a half years old.
I do have new foam on the way.
that’s bad. ZMF pads looks more solid.
They really have compressed. Still sound great as I have them on right now. I spoke to the dealer and he is sending me some new foam. They are two and a half years old.
