Thanks. I think I may have confused warm with relaxing. I am looking for a rich and lush midrange and good bass, which the hemps seem to have. I just donât want a recessed midrange. Looks like the hemps will be good for me then, however it isnât on Amazon anymore.
This is the official Grado store. If your in the USA and maybe Canada, this is a good place to buy. If youâre in the EU then you will have to look at local dealers.
Thatâs a very precise price.
How do the beautiful audio pads sound compared to the stock flats?
Also welcome to HiFiguides.
Thanks for the welcome. I might be hearing less bass and wider soundstage. You can get all wool for more low end. Comfort of the combo is great.
Looking for a second pair of cans to compliment my 6xx. Anyone who has tried both think this would be a good move? Love the look of the hemps.
The older I get, the quieter I want to get about recommendations. Subjectivity is just so unpredictable, I honestly have no idea if the Hemps would be a good move for you. You might hateâem and what do I know!
That said, there was a time that people did talk about Sennheiser and Grado as two of the archetypal âdifferent soundsâ. So that is a complementary pairing Iâm for sure in that regard. Subjectively whether you like them both as complementary or whether you just find yourself on one team or the other becomes the question.
Things are a little more complicated nowadays because there are so many more Teams (and of course there used to be Beyer fans as Sony fans and several more, but now itâs just nuts!)
Of course with a question like yours, the standard forum answer is going to be⊠of course you should have both!
That is a great answer. Thanks for the insight!
Kinda reminds me of art vâs science imagesâŠ
Van GoghâŠ
Hubble Telescope starry nightâŠ
One is an emotional rendition of what someone feels about an image/sound.
The other is fact image/soundâŠwhere does your audio preferences lie?..mines with the first.
Youâre welcome. Iâll add that 20 years ago I was more âTeam Gradoâ than âTeam Sennâ.
And in one of the live feeds from Resolve Reviews (who is not a Grado lover at all) I mentioned that 20 years ago there were these two teams in Head-Fi. He said âNo! It was Team Sennheiser and Team Beyer! Oh no wait⊠that was ten years ago⊠I donât know about 20âŠâ
Iâm older than that dude, lol. Nowadays I see the thought that Grados are âold man cansâ with the thought that geezers lose their higher frequencies, so the elevated treble on Grado is appealing to old dudes.
But again, subjectivityâ- I was Team Grado 20 years ago. Didnât like Sennheiser HD650s back then â except for comfort. That is ⊠back when I wasnât yet a geezer. NOW I just want to shut up about preferences, lol. So there goes the old men love Grado theory.
That all said⊠1) you already got my point about the two archetypal house sounds, so that itself is a recommendation to get the Hemps for a âlearningâ process at minimum; can sell them if theyâre not for you and yes, at a small loss for the education; and 2) I like the HD6xx a LOT now, and I love the Hemps. Donât come for me if you donât!
Another sort of philosophical thought that I am wrestling with: sometimes I can think a set of headphones is better, but also notice that within a range of excellence⊠when Iâm just listening to music? It doesnât matter so much. That is, I get as lost in sound with the Hemps as I do with my Focal Elex, no freaking need to compare for music listening. I can compare if I just want to compare, but the joy of the music isnât necessarily any better with the assessed-as-better set.
Have no idea if thatâs coherent, forgive me if not.
Hey all, first time posting here. Owned SR60s for almost two decades and upgraded to the Hemps recently.
Loving the sound but am wondering if you all have seen any scarring/defects in the hemp housing? I have a rather large gash on the right side and am considering returning them to get another pair unless this is just something everyone lives with.
That looks bad to me. A tiny ding that you can feel running your fingers over it wouldnât bother me, and I imagine is common with this kind of composite material. But that would bother me. Iâd return it. Theyâre expensive cans and should look good.
That said, it looks like it wonât affect sound at allâŠ
uugh⊠mine donât have that. I would get in contact with the seller or Grado themselves and ask them about it.
While I doubt that affects sound, it is a pretty big gash. Looks like a clump of hemp fibers didnât bind in there properly. Like others have said, contact the seller or Grado and see if you can get a replacement.
Mine have a very small unsmooth spot like that. Buy it is very small.compared.to.the looks.of.youra. if it were me I would consider exchanging them.
On another topic. I recently exchanged emails with Prezm at Shipibo.Audio and because this forum has been mentioned his great products to improve Grados he has activated a special discount coupon code worth 20% off on an order. The code is HIFIGUIDES . It can only be used a total of 5 times. 1st come 1st serve. Enjoy.
Thank you very much good sir
Can any Grado Hemp owners please test out a few songs for me to see if they are suitable for the headphones? Thank you very much
Shiny Stockings - Dexter Gordon
Boat To Sail - Carpenters
Wide Open Spaces - The Chicks
Other than sub-bass heavy or very hard core kinds of music (like EDM or the modern Doom soundtracks) the Hemps pretty much always sound good. Even then they sound good, just not as good as other headphones might since the Hemps lack some sub-bass and are a bit congested with really busy and lower mids focused music.
As for the songs you mentioned, I have nothing to complain about. The Hemps sound wonderful with acoustic and vocal music. That first song had a rather forward cymbal, but it sounded like the mix more than the headphone. Female vocals are always a treat on the Hemps and I love how they keep things intimate while still sounding like an open space.
If youâre considering getting the HempsâŠ
