Headphone for single player games and music, under ~250 €

Hello,

I would like to ask for some suggestions for a headphone. Budget is around ~250€, I’m in Europe.

I often use them to play videogames (single player ones only, mostly jrpgs) late at night (so that my neighbors don’t hate me).

I generally prefer opens or semi-open cans, but I don’t mind closed ones as long as they’re comfortable.

Other than that, I listen to a bit of everything (other than metal): indie music, folk, bossa nova, some jazz and rock, some orchestral.

Previously I used:

  • Sennheiser 598SE that I did not like much (too veiled/distant).
  • Nighthawks Carbon that just died on me (only one ear works). I liked how fun they were (great bass), some songs were a bit of a miss (instrumentals)
  • Koss Porta Pro with yaxi pads, they’re great for the price. They’re my backup headphones but I find them uncofortable after a while (I think I have a big head lol).

As for my setup, I have a Topping E30 (dac) and a Liquid Spark (amp).

What I am considering right now (and can easily find on Amazon):

  • For about ~150 euro I can get the DT880 600 ohm or Tygr 300R
  • For about ~250 euro a Sundara or Zeus Elite

I welcome other suggestions as well, I’m not really sure what’s the best fit for my use case.

Thank you for any help!

I just got the Hifiman Edition XS for $200 with coupon at AliExpress and they’re excellent at twice the price. I also got a first gen v1 HE400se for $50 with coupon and I like them better than the stealth version of them (better bass but need a little more power).
Both from the Hifiman store there, so 18 month warranty.

I would agree with @Dunring in general but my issue here is that the Xs tends to like power and im not sure the spark can dish out to make the Xs really shine
I’d consider the Hamonicdyne Eris great bass and a decent all rounder. Maybe the FIIO FT-1 but i havent heard myself but folks have been singing its praises
