Headphone Pre Out "Sound"?

Question for people who have used the pre outs on headphone amplifiers. Does the input signal typically just run through the pot then out to speakers? Or are there other components in the chain that could impart some of the amp’s sound characteristics to the signal?

This might vary a lot by manufacturer and models, but I would like to know your experiences.

So it really does depend on the manufactures, but generally I tend to see that the pre out does run through more than the volume pot, and is either amplified or passed through other aspects of the amp for a solid state amp, and it’s extremely common for a pre out on a tube amp to run though some stage that includes a tube

This being said, most manufactures do a decent job with this and their pre out is transparent enough to where it really shouldn’t bother people
