What are your recommendation for headphones with a fun but detailed. Good soundstage and imaging. Good instrument seperation. Not too technical because will be using mostly for casual and enjoyable listening rather than active or critical listening. Open or close both are fine. Got the he400se and will be getting argon mk3 too. So if other headphones complement then that would even be better. Will be getting an amp dac too. Price havent considered yet so. Can get multiple headphones if needed
Thank you
Meze 99 Classics.
Plenty of moderately controlled bass – not tight, not super flabby – that does seep into the lower mids and mids, yet the upper mids and highs still are nice. Super quality construction, with not a centimeter of plastic. Metal hardware and suspension headband structure, leather headband, wooden cups.
These cans never will win a frequency curve beauty contest or become an audiophile’s wet dream for critical listening. Not even close. But if you want a closed back that’s rich, warm, energetic and fun and excellent with genres such as EDM, hip-hop and hard rock, you can spend $310 far more foolishly than the 99 Classics.
Another bonus: The 99 Classics are incredibly easy to drive. You can run them off a phone with no problem. Additional amplification helps the sound signature but not that much.
Nighthawk Carbon
Drop / Focal Elex
I have definitely enjoyed the sivga sv21 for content consumption and with a decent dac/amp setup they do pretty well technically for the price point.
Harmonicdyne Zeus.
Adding the Fostex TH9xx (TH900mk2 / TH909) either …
Some of the most fun all around enjoyable headphones I’ve owned , so I have a soft-spot for them FWIW. Technically capable, work well across most genre, relatively easy to drive and scaled well as my source gear advanced, Comfortable to wear, even for extended sessions.
YMMV
They are fun, but for the same price I think the LSA HP-2’s are phenomenal. $799.00, on sale.
I got a deal on a set of Denon AH-D5200 and they are pretty fun to listen to. Also the Focal Elex are a fun listen.
I had a Denon AH-D5000 with a full Lawton mod - that was one heck of a headphone. Denon is often overlooked, Good call out!!
I really enjoy my Focal Clear Mgs for casual / fun listening.
I agree. I like my Robins when I am binge watching stuff on Netflix since the Robin headphones are amazingly comfortable.
I think that you are going to get a lot of fun with the Argons MKIII. They sound pretty much as you described. It seems a very good fit for your needs.
The Cascades are too on the fun side, they have a different sound, more detailed and cleaner, but I would say that both serve almost the same purpose, so I am not sure if the Cascades make a lot of sense, after the Argons.
