Heyyall, so i’ve been looking at some headphones since its time to update my stuff. Currently have astro a40’s W/O mixamp. I’ve been looking at CM mh751’s and arctis pro’s. Thing is i kinda like the open back option on these, its much better for playing CS since you can hear everything around u much more clear and unmuffled vs having the plates on. I still like them on for listening to music(mostly bassy hiphop and some DNB). Any recommendations for semi open back headphones? At least on these i am unable to play CS with the backs closed now that i’ve tried playing without them, so i dont know if closed backs are a good option anymore. Thanks in advance
E: also budget is 150 euros max, including a microphone
I don’t know if you can make that budget work with open backs and a mic imo. Something like the dt880 250 ohm would work well, but you would still want to get a mic which would drive the price up.
You could get a pair of Shp9500s with a vmoda boom pro, but it personally wouldn’t be my first pick
Actually you could consider a pair of ad700x and a modmic, it would be excellent for cs but not ideal for the music you listen to
Hey thanks for the reply, unfortunately i live in EU so every one of those headphones are exactly 150 euros alone.
Hmm, then what about the Sennheiser Game ONE? You might have to check local used markets for some of the aforementioned headphones to see if you can find a deal, or you might have to raise your budget
I could actually get the sennheisers for less than 130, they have fabric earpads which i love and at least visually the perfect semi open backs. But zeos hasnt reviewed them so i dont know if theyre any good
They are pretty good imo, with a good quality mic too. I don’t think they are as good as something like a Sennheiser hd58x or beyerdynamic dt880 250 ohm, but for your budget it makes a fair bit more sense
Thanks for the recommendation M0N, this one is case closed(or should i say open) for me. Hope you have a nice day. I’ll leave now
No problem, if you have any questions just ask
Looked more into the the sennheisers and found the gsp500 would be only 20euros more. Any idea are the worth it? E: dont have a dac/amp
If nothing else, I have the link starting at the microphone test for this review. Not my video, or my channel, and I don’t always find myself agreeing with them on everything, but if nothing else, it’s a starting point.
I do find they are kinda full of crap on their descriptions of some of the microphones. However, it gives an idea of how it sounds at least.
Thanks for the link. The gsp’s seem like they’re just a straight upgrade from the game ones, so i think im going with them. Also fit nicely into the budget.
I have the game one and the artics 7. Both work great in games, just ok at best for music. Artics comes with dts-x on Windows. As long as your using them the license for dts will allow it to work. (You have to download the app from Windows store) If you want dts-x or Dolby Atmos separately you can pay a fee to use either with any headphone.
Also the game one has probably the best microphone on a gaming headset ever… Literally
My review of the Artics before dts-x was available on Windows
PC37X is $140 (EU) on Massdrop right now.
It’s essentially a Game One.
It’s a PC373D with out USB 7.1 VSS, which is pretty much a Game One.
i believe It’s better than the game one. th egame ones are pased off the same driver as the hd 558 while th e pc 37x are based of the 598 but correct me if I’m wrong.
If I’m honest, we have a lot of HiFi/premium headphones and gaming headset. None of the gaming headset sound good with music… Ok with movies, but I’d rather buy kph30i for music if you have to have a gaming headset.
The option I prefer most of the time is a decent set of open backs like the he4xx or even the Grado sr80 with a separate mic on the desk like the Blue Yeti
If I’m using the Arctis 7 it’s for the wireless. I can easily walk across our house and still chat plus DTS-X license is included.
The game one are great for chatting due to the mic plus it sounds great in games as well.
My brother sold is Astro with mix amp and for audio Technica ath ad700x $91 U.S. on Amazon with the Blue snowball and hasn’t looked back
His review here
The ad700x, ad900x, and ad1000x are competitive gaming beasts, but not ideal for most music imo
They sound light years ahead of gaming specific headphones for music… Like WAYYYYY better with music…lol
