I would like to thank everyone for their contribution to this and other audio communitites. You have all already helped me a ton in one way or another!
What I have: Apple wired earphones ( No other experience)
What I want: A pair of headphones that can give me an awesome cinematic experience when gaming or watching movies. Meaning high volume without distortion. Lots of bass that you can really feel (Explosions, Cinematic effects… etc). Big wide soundscape. These are the priority but hopefully mids highs are still audible without being annoying.
I guess this setup would also do well with electronic/trap music?
My budget is 200 euros max. (Including an amp if you think it is needed).
So far my pick is: Pronomic KH-900 (Monoprice retros EU version?) with the BZ pads as suggested by Z. And some amp in the 100 euros range.
You would need an amp though as the d10 is only a dac and cannot power headphones. I agree with the 770 250 ohm, but perhaps just wait and get an amp and dac later
The DT770 pro look like great headphones and I seem to be able to find them for 110 euros. Meaning I could still slip in a dac/amp sooner rather then later.
Being 250 ohm I guess an amp is essential anyway?
Also have you guys personally tried these? Do they really deliver on the bass/soundstage?
They are a fair bit wider than most closed backs though, and they do deliver on the bass claims to lol
I do think that they can be run off of a phone, but an amp is eventually appreciated
Unfortunately this would go over your budget a bit, but if you could get your hands on a fiio k5 pro, you would be set for sure. There are other options as well but I don’t know if they would be available where you live
Okay so I am pretty excited on these now. I will spend the next few hours researching them more.
I live in Europe so yeah most american brands are a bit off for us…
Just a small comment on the amp side of things I need something that can get input from 3.5mm or optical (for an xbox). Mic support would be nice as well.
Well the fiio k5 pro meets those requirements for sure except the mic input (and it’s also cheaper than some other options while still being a high quality amp)
The fulla 3 might work well for you as it does have a mic in but only works via USB with no other inputs. To get a line input you would need to get something like the schiit hel. With both also I think the mic input only works via USB
Hey thanks for taking the time to recommend some amps as well. Everyone keeps recommending the fiio amps so I guess that they really are king for the price.
I will also look into the others you have mentioned. I am kind of hooked on reading about these DT770s for now tho. They just look so big and comfy
They are built really well (I’ve dropped my pair more than I would like to mention because the longer cable got caught in my chair and pulled them off the desk), and I can wear them for a long time with no discomfort. The only downside for this price is the attached cable, but it’s pretty durable from my experience
I think the jds Labs atom or monolith liquid spark amps are also great but they might not be available to you (you would also want to get a dac later on)
Can’t remember the cost, but it was okay. Amazon US had it also with free shipping at the time, but the difference was only 3-4 dollars as the Monolith was more expensive at Amazon.
So better support the manufactor.
Well in my experience ( I am from Greece) there are two official websites I have found from monoprice.
Monoprice.eu seems very limited in the audio department, for example I can’t find any of their amps. They do ship very easily to EU tho.
Then there is the monoprice.com website which does have international shipping. The thing is they ask for 80 dollars for shipping to where I live :P.
Also I know once the package arrives here local custom will be asking for more than that… So yeah…
So anyway I think I am pretty set on the DT 770 250 ohms. Unless ofcourse someone has any other awesome suggestion :).
Now only to find a good dac/amp for them with line in at the 100 Euros mark. I am looking at the fiiO k5 pro but at 170 Euros it seems a little steep. Senheiser gsx 1000 seems awesome as well but I am not sure if it works with line in… Also the Schiit Fulla 3 seems great at 130 Euros as well I am just not sure how well it works with line in as well.
As for the mic since it seems a bit hard to find a dac/amp combo working with line in and a microphone. I was wondering if I could just use a cable splitter before the dac/amp and add the functionality this way. ( I hope this is not stupid xD).
Other than that I can find some soundblaster gaming dac/amps with all the functionality at 100 eu on sale… But I guess these are pretty bad.
