No those are on the same tier imo, just different voicings
Not really, the included amps are pretty meh and don’t really add that much cost

Previous discussions say yes. The Cyan is a fantastic DAC based on my research. Torq rated it in the his top 10 DAC/amps but barely above the Soekris. Really you can’t go wrong just do your research to ensure synergy.
Yes already decided on the v280 and soekris. I’m just waiting for their new line up and wanted to see where the cyan is level wise compared to others.
So with a violectric, soekris > cyan, but with a gsx mini, cyan > soekris. Pairing matters a ton, you can have a quality dac and have that quality dac sound meh to bad in the wrong system
do you have a link to this list?
Kind of, it’s on the internet and in this forum. I believe you responded to the thread with this link.
Do we have any idea of when the new DACs from Soekris are likely to be available?
From what I’ve heard later this year but due to all the issues this year I’m not sure lol
Thanks I’ll look for it… I honestly don’t remember that thread and don’t know who Torq is. People refer to Tyll and other audio people and I usually have 0 clue who they are.
I’m not the guy to answer this, but Torq is a reviewer for Headphones.com who has compiled a huge amount of info on various R2R DACs that can be found on superbestaudiofriends.org.
I think there are two lists here for Torqs favorite DACs.
On is for combo DAC amps and one is standalone DACs.
Torq was a guy who’s heard a lot of DAC’s and posted about them on SBAF, more recently he’s been reviewing for headphones.com. The top 10 lists were something he put together since he was leaving on a round the world sailing trip (which is now indefinitely suspended due to covid).
He has a good ear, but he isn’t someone I generally agree with across the board,.
Tyll was THE headphone reviewer on the internet for several years, he did reviews for InnerFidelity, and retired a few years ago. The InnerFidelity site was recently deleted. was recently.
Again like all reviewers take with a pinch of salt.
If either claimed something was worth listening to I’d probably make an effort to listen to it, I’d take eithers (or anyones) absolute ranking of anything with a huge pinch of salt.
Thanks again guys… give me tons of new resources to read… I’ve never even heard of or been to SBAF, Innerfidelity, headphone forums. Appreciate the sources!
Just FYI, I don’t like cross posting forum stuff but I saw some of our hifiguides people over there… and those lists are kinda neat to check out. If you scroll up from the link I posted the overall DAC is on there. I’m a little sad about the Holo DAC Spring 2 not making the list but that might be due to synergy. Regardless, enjoy the resources!
That was a DAC he loved when he first heard it, you can find the posts on SBAF, ranked it as possibly better than the Yggrasil, which was his bench mark DAC for a LONG time.
But as he mentions in either that post or previous ones, he has found that though he initially likes NOS DAC’s longer term they aren’t something he chooses to listen to .
Context is everything when trying to understand someones preferences.
And while the spring 2 has oversampling as an option, it’s definitely not as good as nos mode, so that would make sense
@M0N, have you had any experience with the Holo Audio Azure? I might have sourced a Cyan in the UK and they’d look awfully nice together.
No, but going off the amp built into the cyan it honestly might be pretty sweet if it’s improving upon what they have already done, but I can’t say for sure
I’m going to bite on a Holo Cyan that’s significantly discounted due to it being an ex-demo unit. I’ll see how I like it with the gear I’ve already got, and since it has an integrated amp, I’m going to see what I think of the sound signature, as apparently the Azure sounds similar but just… more. If it’s great, I’ll get the Azure and they’ll make a handsome stack. Will report back. Eyes open for a V280 in the meantime. I want to try all of this stuff. I’ve got a horrible feeling that this never stops.
Should be an interesting comparison
If that’s the case I might want to pick one up as well lol
I’ve got a feeling you are right lol
