Help me with my 1st real headphones purchase

i also have the 770’s and beyerdynamics are quite a known and trusted brand

The 80 ohm in my opinion was the worst sounding. An amp can help, but you would probably only need one for the 250 ohm version. The higher the impedance, usually the higher the power needed. Also there is a 32 ohm version that is the easiest to drive of the DT 770 Pro. I still think that the highs on the DT 770 Pro you may find unpleasant, whereas the Triple Driver highs were less sharp.
There aren’t many open back headphones I would recommend for your price range that are portable, except for maybe the DT 880 600 ohm, but that would not run well off of any portable amplifier in your price range. Closed back can still sound as good as open back in some cases, it just takes the company more work and precision in making the headphone correctly.
The Triple Driver and the ES100 together would still be under budget as far as I know, about 150 plus 80 USD, so around 200-230 USD.
It would be hard to find open backs that are all around, yet have the kind of bass you want in your price range.
What I would recommend doing is if you can, order 2 headphone models from Amazon if they ship to your country, with the Earstudio ES100, and then send back/return the one you don’t want, and keep the other one.
Like @anon54878099 said, the DT 880 is good. Won’t have the same bass as the Triple Driver probably but still good.
I would try both the Triple Driver and the DT 880 80 ohm and see which one you like better.
Amazon usually has free returns if you say there was something wrong with the product.

sorry maybe it was the 250 that i was told is good, can’t remember but ill trust ur judgment

Ok I got you.

One thing about amplifier though. The Earstudio ES100 doesnt seem to be for sale in my country. There were other suggestions earlier in the topic of Fiio BTR3 or BTR5. Are they worty substitution or should I try and grab one of Earstudio ES100 from overseas?

I personally have the BTR3 and it’s phenominal, i’m not sure if it would be able to properly drive a 250 beyerdynamic tho tbh. I heard the BTR5 has a much better amplifier and it sounds very promising based on the people who got it but it’s rather expensive to my knowledge. Definetly over 100 if i remember correctly

Here. I will link both of Zeos’ reviews on these 2 headphones. Watch them and they can give you an idea of what they are like.

just searched it and it’s 109$ might be a bit over your budget in total. If it’s doable i do think you will enjoy them. Someone made a thread here in hifiguides about the BTR5, they also had the BTR3 and there was nothing but praise. @Aspen If i remember correctly you have the BTR5 right? do you think it would power a 250 ohm headphone ok?

The Earstudio is much more powerful than the Fiio. If you can find it for a good price and not too expensive shipping, I would still get it over the BTR3. If however, that is impossible, the Fiio BTR3 is not that bad.

So that’s another option then. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thnx man, really valuable info! So @Supermodel i suggest you watch the 2 comparison videos, based on the info the 1MORE are cheaper and have better bass while the Beyerdynamics are a little bit more of an all rounder. But the combination of the DT 880 250 ohm and the FIIO BTR5 might be a little over budget if not alot. Do keep that in mind, buying used is great. The earstudio is great too, just depends on what you find more convinient in buying it overseas or not

Yeah. Again, I personally loved the Triple Triple Drivers compared to the beyerdynamic headphones. That sub bass moves the earth and then the detail in the higher range is spectacular. For the price I don’t think you can get headphones with better sub bass that are actually high quality sounding headphones too.

yeah honestly he really likes bass, so i do think it’s the better option. Just since he asked about an all rounder too i mentioned the beyerdynamics. i would like to hear the triple drivers too, curious about the sound. But i tend to like slightly flatter stuff

Ok so far my options look like this

  • DT 880 Pro 250 ohm + Fiio BTR5 or Earstudio ES100
  • DT 770 Pro 80 ohm (right? there is 250 ohms version as well) + any amp (among 3 we talked about)
  • 1More Triple Driver + any amp (among 3)

or did I miss something?

Yeah that’s about right. Also the more clean power you give the Triple Drivers and the 250 ohm DT 880 the better they will sound.

Yeah but I feel like my budget is limited to either ES100 or BTR5 so that is as much power as I can provide.

You could buy them on Amazon, and then return them. That’s what I did to try them. I just put the return reason in like “buzzing noise” or “faulty cable”. They don’t even care lol.

sounds correct to me.

Right. Meaning the power ratings probably go like this:
BTR3 lowest
BTR5 medium
Earstudio ES100 highest.
Either the BTR5 or ES100 will probably sound better than what I use. I use a Cowon Plenue D, a digital audio player. But I will say it isn’t a bad player for its price, it doesn’t have bluetooth though.

haha yeah i’ve done so too, love amazon. but depending on his budget he would have to do one by one instead of buying both and a/b testing them. so he’s gotta probs choose for sure before he buys them, IF he dosen’t like one he can do so
