Ya the BTR 5 has plenty of juice, at high gain on 35 (out of 50) they are is just fine, but you have to run it balanced (2.5mm).
Or you can go for the BTR 7 or NX7, they have plenty of power, but i personally like the smaller form factor and clip of the BTR5 over most other things
Planar, need is currentā¦ portable wonāt do much, wattage is only for your volume which most will give you, however bass slam control and separation will be easily distinguish between portable and desktop with the same wattage. For dynamic driver is different, most 1 watt above will drive them plenty.
Hey, Mojo 2 is a great product and will drive Edition XS pretty well. You should be aware of something, Iāve seen some users at Head-Fi complain about a random loud white noise which is caused due to a USB Synchronization bug or something. Optical works without issue.
I have owned BTR5, Gryphon, XD-05 OG/BAL, iDSD Sig, Mojo among other portable DACs and auditioned the Mojo 2 so Iām familiar with the products you mentioned.
I would skip the NX7 and wait for the Topping G5 instead, youāll get extra features and functionality.
Definitely skip BTR5, getting enough volume on a Headphone and driving it well are two different things and BTR5 will not do the later option with Edition XS. Have not tried the BTR7 but Iād be very surprised if it drives a planar to full potential.
For something like Edition XS, Iād either pick Mojo 2 or micro iDSD Signature/Black Label.
Gryphon would also drive it well but only if you use Balanced Out. At that price, unless you really want a smaller portable product, Iād skip it and look at micro iDSD Series instead. You should be able to find a used Black Label.
Thank you, this is great answer, i will try to talk with seller of black label on local market, black label used in good condition 300$, chord mojo 2 new 440$, mojo first version used for 300$ too. For me currently, while Russian bombs and rockets explode not far for me: the best solution will be black label, mojo, etc.
To other guys: thank you for your advices, but there is no possibility to get Asgard to the refugee bag, im already fled from my city for two months because of street fights and rockets. Now Iām back, but i donāt know what will be here tomorrow, and the only things which i can take with me is devices like: mojo, black label, etcā¦ Im from Kyivā¦
Btr5 in terms of power, looks similar to my current powerdac v2.1, so i think i need something more powerful.
Topping nx7 donāt have a dac as far as i knowā¦
My desktop setup was smsl d1se + topping a30 pro, before war, but had to sell it, because of war:(
Oh, wanted to add, i found one more option with size factor for me topping dx3 pro plus, for 170$ like new condition. It is the cheapest solution, is it worth to look that way? Or it will be āwithout soulā?
Best wishs man, its shitty situation hopes the music helps
Ya i get it man - like i said its not nearly enough current to really give it all it needs to really make it shine, but it get loud enough and its a solid portable that you can use down the line.
Between Mojo, Mojo 2 & Black Label. My personal choice would be the BL, it has a laid back warm sound that pairs well with the brighter signature of Edition XS without sacrificing details, the xBass option does wonders on HiFiMan Headphones.
I would not recommend Mojo, it has good Imaging and does that 3D effect on soundstage but everything is so close together and it has so much detail that personally, I find it fatiguing. Mojo 2 on the other hand has similar sound characteristic but because of itās EQ you can tune it to sound more relaxing.
The above is for my personal tastes so YMMV. Either way the above 3 are solid devices.
Yeah get the BL I think then. For POWER - I donāt think you will have any complaints, like no contest that one. And is like a desktop AND portable, both, solution (albeit a bit bulky for portable, but still, if not too bothersome. No less portable than a mojo). And def very pleasant sounding - laidback and warm like John says.
And stay safe out there. Hoping this issue would soon end so you guys can all relax and get back to it.
But i have to say, after investigation of btr7 im interested a lot of device itself and it use cases, much more interesting than black label! But the question: will be the balanced power of btr7 enough for edition xs, to provide juicy sound. Second point that btr7 is not available yet on our local market, i will try to ask when it will be available at local shops. International shipping - i worried about it, because no planes fly thru my country, as i can see from linsoul, hifigo or AliExpress - dhl or fedex are currently not available at all, so maybe it isnot good idea to order from another country nowā¦ Well i need to gather more info and think, because device itself btr7 looks very interesting.
I talked with black label seller, and found that there is some issues with that device, so i a little bit disappointed
Havent any good ones but i did see one on Amazon UK used in good condition for a noticble chunck less (also check other amazon sites, like DE, you might find a better deal)
I can get it for $380 from aliexpress, but says Iād have to pay tax if itās over 150 eur value. Can they declare lower value? did anyone from europe order it?
Maybe it is different in Your country but for me (Germany) the price you see while shopping already includes the tax. When I go through the shopping process the amount of tax I have to pay gets discounted on the item price. Still my seller was so nice to under declare the value I only had to pay like 15ā¬ VAT.
Thatās nice thanks for the info. Bit worried with warranty and aliexpress since I canāt return it if they ask, shipping to china is probably very expensive. I might still do it since cheapest on amazon is 550$ and used are 450$(who knows what problems the used ones might have). $390 isnāt a bad deal at all.
That Chinese headband wonāt actually fit either the Ananda or Edition XS, itās designed for round cup Hifimans which have quite different dimensions. I know they list it as āfor the Anandaā but if you look at all the photos and the video they have of it, itās all round cup Hifimans, it will be quite a bit too short for the egg ones which have a longer distance between the mount points.
Comment from the video and Ali listing: āThis product doesnāt fit with Ananda. What is the basis for compatibility with Ananda?ā
If you could actually get an Ananda headband, that should fit if you can get it unscrewed. The Ananda and Edition XS cups are identical and they use the same method of attachment. The Arya cups are also identical in size but use a pin system for attachment rather than a screw like on the Ananda/Edition XS.
