what are the differences between this and the original X?
Anyone ordered these?
Hmm, less bright, less HiFiMan-typical, apparently.
Thanks for the heads up, great review. Going to have to demo these…
Guys, are the cups plastic or metal? Like if anyone knows this.
Also, which hifimans have metal cups?
Actually my XS cups met some thinner and it literally shows the actual white undercup, I didn’t know these were plain dumb white plastic cups painted with glittery gray paint. I’m more like looking for metal earcup Hifimans now for some mental peace.
For what it’s worth, I got the new HE600, Edition XV, and Ananda Unveiled recently. I can say without a doubt, the XV feels like a good upgrade to the XS and is a very firm technical jump over the XS in general to the point that I would say that in most ways it beats the Arya Stealth with absolute ease, but the Ananda Unveiled is a huge jump in technical performance and flat out breaks the price bracket for what it does…and all that being said, the HE600 is even better. The HE600 doesn’t have the typical stage height of the egg shape but it’s just a damn good listen and with a bass shelf and a pad swap, they’re just honestly probably pure endgame for the vast majority of people not wanting to spend a shitload of money and aren’t obsessed with useless soundstage size. Tonally, the Ananda Unveiled are much richer and clearer with way better dynamics than the XV and to be perfectly blunt, the Ananda Unveiled sounds like it’s around HE1000v2 levels of detail and slam, especially with a bass shelf, which it can handle better than almost any egg shaped Hifiman.
@ATK From what I can tell, the cups are still plastic, but the grills on the XV are all metal and the overall build is really strong without having that ringing of the older window shade grills.
Also, I want some pads for this new series. @NtraXMod What’s it gonna take? Do I need to order an Ananda Unveiled to you for testing on the way to me?
If we leave technicalities totally, and shift the priority to bass quantity (not too midbassy) & treble refinement.
What would be your pick ? From the new sets
HE600 wins all around for me. It’s a no contest. Ananda Unveiled is great, HE600 is fantastic. Pads exist for the HE600, they don’t for the XV for Ananda Unveiled. I have a feeling that with proper pads, they could both slam like a truck because of the raw driver speed. This new gen is real and the changes are significant this time around. Find a dealer. Don’t pay retail.
