I recently purchased the HE-400i and am pleased with the sound. The description on Amazon states in 2018/2019 they updated the yokes so they are now reinforced. Was this with all new shipments and is there anyway to tell if mine have the new yoke?
When I google it I see they offer the new headband for sale, but nothing stating it is now standard so wondering of the description is misleading. It is saying they are easy to drive and perfect for smart phones, but I don’t know if I agree here. Have to put them on 100% basically to get decent sound out of them.
They have 3.5mm connectors so I know that part is new.
The new yokes look almost identical to the old ones, so there’s no way to tell. I had my he560v1 headband snap, and just contacted hifiman and they shipped out the new headband relatively quickly.
You might be able to send hifiman an email with your serial number and ask if it has the new headband
To get the best out of the hifiman headphones, I would suggest getting an amp, and that will make them louder and sound better
Thank you for the quick reply. I think they are a step up from the 9500s I have and after reading all the stories about the 400i breaking I was hoping there was a way to confirm. Looking at a JDS Atom for an amp or possibly a Schiit stack. JDS has a 3.5mm in so I can run it off my PC without a DAC, at least initially, and spread out spending to get less flack from my wife.
