HIFIMAN HE4XX Appreciation Post

I’ve owned a pair of these for about 8 months and I have reached my end game for cans. I’m not even curious about other headphones. I prefer planars over diaphragm. The bigger the diaphragm driver, the more it feels like pressurized sound being forced down my ear canal. The Sony MDR-7 (70mm drivers) were so bad with that, I sent them back. Found these on Massdrop and never looked back. The price, level of comfort, sound quality and build quality, in my opinion, makes these cans the solid under $200 champion.

I’ve owned the 4xx for a short time now and I really do like them. Im curious on purchasing some bigger pads since the current ones get a little uncomfortable after some time wearing them. Could anyone recommend a few pair of pads to choose from or any links to show where they are located?

I don’t have a pad rec but I do recall the pads becoming more comfortable after breaking them in. They drove me nuts at first but I ended up liking them.

ZMF has the widest pad selection for comfort. Just check out the inner dimensions/ear cavity measurements to find one that will fit well for you. They’re all super comfy in terms of material anyway. Whether you should get leather/suede or velour depends on your climate (especially humidity) and what you prefer.

The zmf pads that get recommended the most for the 4xx are the ori pads. Either the solid lambskin or perforated lambskin I believe are recced for the best sound. But just so you know they will change the sound.

Depends on your ears. The Ori are the same size as the stock Focus A pads, that’s why people recommend them, but if your ears are still getting squished it doesn’t matter much how close they sound. Not when you’re paying an extra $60.
