šŸ”¶ HiFiMan Sundara

Hmm, what were you playing?

I’ve been through Rimworld, squad, all the aoe’s, eso, m&b bannerlord, war thunder, planetside 2, and tarkov with the sundaras.

I hadn’t really thought much about them, to be honest. When I started to look into them I read a couple of instances where they were referred to as having recessed mids, which is not true at all.

I have read everywhere that planar’s are supposed to be very bassy. I just find that the Sundara’s have a very nice bass. Not really as pronounced as my Fostex’s or even my Meze 99’s, but almost perfectly done.

I am not a bass head, I just want to hear those drums. :grinning:

Lately, mainly COD Warzone.

personally I didn’t find the imaging to be as well defined on the sundaras as say the beyers. They were not my preferred gaming headphone

What impedance Beyer’s?

250 ohms for me. I’d second the above imaging / soundstage claims that the sundara feels better for those.

nah man, tarkov labs is where it’s at. The ultimate in sound whoring lol. tarkov is made or broke by the sound

if only there weren’t so many hackers and the servers worked lol. Might be fucking playable

I never understood this claim either

seems to be the consensus but yeah these are not that… a part of me is definitely a bass head lol and the sundaras can deliver nice nice bass when called upon but doesn’t have that slam that bass heads look for… more like a nice even quality bass

glad you’re liking them though

Loving my new Sundaras as well. Pretty much as others have said. Enough, clean bass, great vocals, and crisp treble. Though eclectic in tastes I especially like orchestral, (having played for 20 years) and these sound very ā€œcorrect.ā€ A really balanced headphone!

Personally I’d say planar = bass is something of a misconception. Planar bass is fast and has great impact and slam, but this does not equate to bass quantity. However does have excellent quality. Both planars I’ve owned (lcd2f, sundara) have had really clean tight bass with good impact but in terms of quantity fall short of the closed biodynamics i have like the purplehearts and eikons. Of course there’s probably planars out their with big quantity as well.

im not an authority here but what I here is these tributes are typically attributed to dynamic drivers (minus the fast part) I thought?.. x00’s and nighthawks and dt770’s have more slam than anything ive personally heard ( z7’s and pretty sweet too :+1: )

this may be one of those instances where definitions are subjective too lol

far from an expert myself just going on personal experience but as I understand it planar tends to have more speed and faster attack. There’s also some debate on what slam actually is so subjectivity definitely factors in here. I would definitely not say one is better than the other (in regards to bass) but there is certainly some distinguishing sound characteristics for both and painting either broadly is probably not accurate

my bad I edited my post to not include speed… id like to hear an lcd to hear how slam and impact compete (at least my subjective definition of it lol)

@Jose_G Will definitely do. Cool we both got them about the same time. These are WAY better than my 4xx. Cleaner and better mids.

it really is cool that we got them around the same time. always makes it funner. same thing happened when i got the 4xx and 58x, was around the same time as a few other people ha. cool to have comparisons because of that. and i agree, these sound cleaner more refined and waaay better mids than the 4xx which is super nice. biggest difference for me tho is the timbre. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy more real.

Yes…and I am super fussy about timbre…these are spot on! Fun sharing!

You are getting me hype. I currently have the HE4XX and am getting the Edition XX on Thursday. Timbre hasn’t been an issue for me though. I guess it just isn’t something I’m very picky of.
