đŸ”¶ HiFiMan Sundara

I had the same thought—may have even used the same analogy.

Stax L700: Take detail retrieval and crank it to “uncanny.”

Rock, Instrumental, and Folk. Mainly.

Okay, I’ll try to put some thoughts together.

Any thoughts on mods for the head strap? it’s supposed to be really cheap and uncomfortable

Not really. Mine was great. If the sundara is uncomfortable for people they’re gonna have a bad time with a lot of other cans afaik.

It’s not a super heavy pair of cans either.

The headstrap is straight leather/pleather?, so if you’re bald, sweating a lot, have a realllly wide head, or are in a really hot climate it might get uncomfortable.

El Amp 2, Asgard 3, or Archel 2.5(or Erish???) with these
i can pair it with Enog 2 or el dac

I ran mine with my Archel just fine. I think the generic M0N-esque recommendation is the Asgard 3 (which I don’t own). I also ran my Sundaras via the Erish. I would say any of the three is fine. If you want to buy a dual 3.5mm to 4 pin xlr balanced cable for the sundara, then the erish would be a good option. I think the archel is perfectly sufficient though.

I have no experience with the el amp 2. Afaik no one here has recommended it specifically for the sundaras. I do know it’s supposed to be pretty good though.

ok, good to hear. Metal571’s review praised the sound but then destroyed the build quality. Thanks

Yea, so the build quality is not trash. It’s just not stellar. I wouldn’t ever drop them from desk height (for fear for the drivers / wiring). However, they aren’t plasticky bullshit (good percentage metal) and the fit is great imo. Just treat them ok and they’ll be fine.

The only reason I wouldn’t buy them is for the QC issues, but if you grab them from a place with a good return policy (or use the hifiman warranty) you’ll be fine. For the record I had zero issues with mine.

ok. and any experience pairing with a tube amp?

Yea. Was not a huge fan. I ran it with my Monolith Liquid Platinum Hybrid Tube amp. Didn’t make them sound that much better than playing via the archel. The extra power the mlp provided was helpful, but other than that the tiny bit of extra ‘tubiness’ didn’t really help the sound imo. I think solid-state is the way to go with the sundaras from my experience so far. Did not play it off of a pure tube amp though.

I think they sounded the best out of the erish tbh. But only marginally better than the archel.

The Sundara seems to be not too amp dependent as far as I experienced.

ok, good to know. I think it’s pretty much the consensus.

I wish the Erish was available now hahah might wait for it but the power of the asgard could be good for later upgrades like a ZMF
but the enog has that balance out that i havent used yet

You can email sherri (just the geshelli labs email address). I know the pre-order is over, but she still might be able to hook you up. There’s the contact page, which I think is the same as emailing?

The asgard is probably a good choice regardless. Get recommended around here a ton. The Archel is still a solid choice (and resell is easy afaik).

What do you have right now?

Atom and Darkvoice

The archel prolly isn’t a huge upgrade. More like a sidegrade afaik. The erish would be. The asgard should be.

If you find a used Gilmore Lite Mk 2 or used Liquid Platinum, those would be good choices for the enog and sundara. The Gilmore much more so than the LP.
